So I just sent in my last requirements for Florida State University.
They told me I was missing a college math requirement for my application to continue to be reviewed. So I took my SAT and got 500 on the math which is the minimum requirement.
They received my SAT scores on april 7th and told me that they will re-review my application and that the message of the hold on my application on my application status will change once they are finished.
I will be taking my last 3 classes this summer and getting my AA to transfer for fall. They told me it was fine and that as long as they will be receiving my AA they will have me as priority.
Im trying to get into the College of Psychology and I have done all the pre-requisites to be eligible to get in.
I currently attend Miami Dade College
GPA: 3.42 (soon to go up)
Will I get into FSU? Im really worried and I don’t know when they’ll tell me my decision.
I took 5 AP classes in highschool and about 3-4 honors classes and 4 D.E classes. and when I graduated my UGPA and WGPA were 3.1 and 3.6.
I was told that since I’m a transfer they won’t really look at my SAT/ACT scores unless they have assisted in completing my requirements which the math has. DO I HAVE A SHOT OF GETTING IN?? AND WHEN WILL THEY LET ME KNOW?? SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT.
I wouldn’t have included the minimum SAT scores simply because they are minimum. They will mainly look and estimate if you will be successful at their school. AA degree shows that you have the desire to accomplish your goals. Rigor of courses taken is something that will come into play. Do you have classes that you have taken that incline such as College Algebra, Precalculus, Trig, etc… How well have you done in the classes pertaining to your intended major. How well have you done in your most recent semesters of college. And then it may be questioned the room available for people who are studying your major as well. These are all questions to ask yourself, and then you get to suffer the misery of the waiting period It is what it is @greta00002 you have done your part in providing your application and now it is the waiting period. Sorry that this is so poorly written. BTW, I was accepted just a few days ago for a limited access major. I’m from a community college (AA) 3.33 GPA. Few terrible grades a few years back, but I have had a strong past two years (12 A’s 2 C’s). With an AA degree, we’re pretty much similar applicants. May be or may be not. I wouldn’t carry too much weight on it. I hope you have applied elsewhere and tried your luck in other directions. Good luck and I hope this has helped.
I needed to SAT scores because it would have completed my math requirement. I’m currently taking statistics. I don’t need any other math course because I’m for psychology. I failed college algebra l;ast year but that was the only class I failed. I’ve kept it at A’s and B’s and once C so far in my years at community college. This semester I’m taking 4 classes and have 2 A’s and 2 B’s and I can still make my B’s A’s. I am not planning to live on campus but off in an apartment near the school. I’m happy you got accepted. It’;s very stressful. I just hope I can get accepted as well. Thank you and good luck to you as well in FSU
If you are set to transfer with an AA, FSU doesn’t care what you did in high school. They will look at all college work that you have completed.
Also, as a Psychology major, you would need two Liberal Studies math classes, in addition to statistics. These classes are things like College Algebra, Trig, etc. You can’t test out of them with just a 500 SAT score.
thats what I was told. I have everything to enter into the school of psychology and that since they needed two math requirements to put my application for review. I was told that I could use an sat math or act math score at the minimum of 500 or above to satify the requirement. This is what I was told repeatedly by the office of admission advisors after I called them multiple times to be sure. Today, I called and they told me that now that they have received the sat score to complete my math they can continue my evaluation of my application. It’s not about the sat score. I’ve done all my college work and my necessary classes. I’mj ust wondering if I have a chance of being admitted with my current gpa , I’ve already looked into the Psychology major and you just need to have completed Biology , Statistics, a couple lower level psychology courses, and general psychology. They told me that if I didn’t have time to take a liberal course math to satisfy the math requirement for my application that they could use SAT. I know the requirements for psychology.
Ok. Thank you. I was talking about the college requirement to have my application reviewed. I didn’t know two liberal maths were needed. I’m going to call them and ask them if I do need them as well . Thanks a alot!! At least I was being told now than later
I think you are looking at two different issues. FSU needs to see evidence of college level math proficiency for review of transfer applications, which is 6 credits of math with a GPA of 2.0 OR appropriate subscores scores on the math portion of the SAT (500). They won’t make a decision on the application without those. If a prospective AA transfer student, for example, waited until their last semester to finish their math requirement, but applied for a transfer before the semester was over (as most do) then the SAT score would be sufficient for FSU to review the application. Otherwise FSU will wait until after the last semester when the grade for the final math credits was posted on the transcript, which could mean missing the deadlines for a timely transfer. So FSU allows the SAT score to take place of the second math class for review purposes. The student would still need to finish the requirements for the AA degree.
What would surprise me would be if Miami Dade College grants AA degrees without two math credits. Those are part of the general ed requirements for pretty much every school in Florida I believe.
Op, are you graduating with an AA with only one math credit?
A 500 SAT score in any category is considered the bare minimum for acceptance into FSU. It also serves as a way to prove proficiency in that subject if your transcripts are missing the classes (as has been pointed out in posts above). The SAT score required for testing out of any math class [is a 680](FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found), and that gets you out of College Algebra (MAC 1105, the basic level math course).
I’m concerned about the same thing that physicsfreak is concerned about- how is the OP graduating with an AA with only one math credit? You need 6 credit hours to fulfill math requirements basically anywhere. Failing college algebra would suggest that they don’t have any math courses that they passed besides the stats course they are in now, which isn’t enough to get an AA.
They can use the SAT score for you to prove that you are proficient in math even though you don’t have the grades yet in a math class to prove it. As a transfer you are required to have 6 credits of liberal studies math, with a 2.0GPA, and no grades below a C-. Failing College Algebra suggests that you don’t meet that requirement.
Your stats might be strong but what you listed here suggests that you do not meet the requirements that FSU has put forth. This would make it a tough sell, in my opinion, for you to be accepted. Keep in mind too that Psychology is not the only department that can accept or reject you: you have to be accepted to the university as a whole. Not meeting some of their requirements does not look good.
I talked to advisement today. I am missing that one math class. I signed up for two just in case for the summer and that will be it for my AA. Thank you guys so much. I’m glad I fixed this problem now instead of later on this really really helped.
I am in the exact same boat as you. I had to sign up for pre-calc over the summer as a pre-req. I’m really nervous about getting accepted. I have a 3.2 GPA, and am receiving my AA at the end of summer 2. I sent my ACT scores today, so hopefully I will know soon.
I just now looked at my status. Before It said I was missing some stuff. But I sent in my new change form listing the two remaining math classes I will take to get my AA. I also called FSU earlier today and asked them if the update would cause a delay to my application being reviewed and the advisement officer said no and that it would be a couple more weeks for them to review my application. I just checked online and my application status was changed to being reviewed my the appropriate academic representative for review. So that’s great. I just wonder how long it will be for them to finish reviewing and post up the decision. When I sent in my SAT scores it took about a week for them to receive it and be added into my application so by next week it should have been received by them. Did you add the pre-calc to the change form to let them know you’re taking it in the summer to complete your AA?
It’s ok to be nervous. I am too. will pre calc be the only class you’re missing for your AA? what is your intended major? your GPA isn’t too bad. I’m sure you’ll get in. don’t be discouraged .
My major is computer criminology (computer science). Pre-calc is the only course that I need for my major, I have 7 summer classes. I haven’t updated them yet, as I was waiting on my adviser to give me the okay on my classes to get my AA. I hope i can find out within a month, as i’m going to have to find a place to live. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too long, because the anticipation is killing me.
It’s killing me too. That’s a lot of summer classes. Adding classes to the change form for FSU doesn’t delay the application review either. It should be within two weeks to a month. I’m really hoping I get in and I hope you get in as well. I’m really worried since Psychology is limited access. Have they updated your application yet though and received your ACTscores?
It has not updated yet, i’m going to submit a change form today or tomorrow. I am nervous for the summer semester, as it is a lot of courses, but I did take 19.5 credits this semester so it might not be so bad. I think with your GPA you shouldn’t have any issues getting into the psychology program there.
Congratulations! I called them today, and it finnaly says that it has been submitted to the appropriate office for review. Hopefully it’s not that much longer!
