anyone ever take two ap english classes in the same year?

do most schools allow this?

i know some kids who took 2 ap english classes in the same year at my school. They took ap lit and ap lang...

i personally took lang as a junior and lit as a senior in order to avoid this.

My school only offers language, but I personally don't really see the worth in taking two AP english classes...

It's possible that you could- but really, what's the point. Like why would you want to take 2 math classes?

Eh, I'm guessing a person would take 2 AP English classes in one year for the same reason they make a lot of other weird academic choices.

They think colleges will be impressed. :)

My school only offers one class, Literature, but we take both the Literature and Language tests.

Many kids take AP Lit and AP Lang. at my school. Lit. is the standard honors track course and Lang. is a course people take to just become better writers in general.

Also, I don't think taking 2 math classes is that weird....
I mean if you had options to take number theory, discrete math, combinatorics, chaos theory, etc...I sure would....

Taking two maths doesn't seem odd to me either. Calc and Stat? If you really love math, I can understand that.

I took calc and stat this year. Math classes usually aren't a lot of outside of school work, besides 2-3 stat projects which were simple.

I took AP Lang last year.

I'm taking AP Lit this year.

At my school, they're the exact same class. It's like repeating junior year...

But in both courses, 90% of students score 3+.

I am registered for both exams, and I enjoy the challenge. And the iniatiative do impress adcoms. Please read Chuck Hugh's book for elaboration.

If you think that they are more or less the same, you are sadly mistaken. The Language AP stresses how writers use grammar, rhetorical devices, tone etc. to express their thoughts. The Lit AP required advanced reading skills and deals with stuff like main idea, theme, charcterization, syntax, symbolism etc. Their differences are greater than their similarities.

I'm not sadly mistaken. At my school anyway, we learn all of that in both classes. The syllabus is identical. Nearly all the kids pass; the average score is a 3.9-4.1 or so.

We don't have any homework except for reading whatever book of the month. It's not much of a challenge; it really depends on the teacher you have.

I never thought either class was a challenge, personally. But maybe it's because I love English so much. My Lit teacher was a tough grader.

My school had combined lang/comp and lit/comp, so students can two exams by just taking one class called "AP English."

The exams test different concepts, and you can't refute that fact. But I do agree that advanced reading and writing skills are critical for both examinations.

I completely understand. English isnt my area of interest, which is why the MC sections are a real challenge for me. I am more into commercial literature realting to politics. My interest lie in politics and history, which is why I dont expect AP World History and AP Comparative Government to be much of a challenge for me. I am still trying to enhance my skills in the MC section.

Anyways, good luck in the exam :)
