2 C's Junior year ruin my chances?

<p>Hi I am new to CC so I apologize if this post is in the wrong place!</p>

<p>Junior year first semester grades are as follows</p>

<p>AP Calculus: C-
AP Biology: C+
U.S History: A
English 3 Honors: B
Physics: B+</p>

<p>every semester for my freshmen and soph years were straight A's with AP Statistics my sophomore year<br>
(sorry, I truly don't mean to boast or anything :[ )</p>

<p>the horrible junior year grades were due to an overwhelming incident in my life. my grandmother first passed away with Alzheimer's, my mother was then diagnosed with cancer, and financial problems all at once left me in depression and a whole load of responsibility at home.</p>

<p>i am trying to be positive that my second semester and senior year grades will support me as well as my SAT score but I need some encouragement or word of advice please :]</p>

<p>are my chances for UCLA, or Cal gone?
Could an increase next semester and a high SAT score truly make up for these horrible grades?</p>

<p>Cal is gone, maybe ucla if you write an essay about what’s happened but since you do bring up what alls happened in your life, college isn’t the be all end all. Spend time with your loved ones. Don’t gets wrong college is important but not nearly worthy of your attention right now</p>

<p>no you still have a good chance just keep up your academics from now and write a good essay and you are in …</p>

<p>Like kidfromtheblock said, focus on your personal life, you are going through a hard time and school is definitely on the backburner. A well-written essay come admissions time will account for a drop in grades and as long as you keep up the good work you had freshman and sophomore years, you have a good shot at both UC berkeley and UCLA.
