Hey all, Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I've recently been stressing as a senior in applying for jobs, .... I just have a few questions that I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out on...

I interviewed awhile back for a Consulting firm, and they emailed me saying that I got accepted to a 2nd round interview, and would contact me to set up a date. I got this email around early October, and they still haven't contacted me.
Do you think I should email/call them to see if I can set up an appointment with them, or is this normal, and would just make me look desperate? They did say they'd contact me, but it's been like a little more than a month.... also another one of my friends who also got accepted for 2nd rounds got a call from them last Thursday. What do you guys think?

One more question... I applied to Homeland Security around September and they emailed me last week telling me that I was qualified and would send my information to the relevant department....??? Whatever that means.... anyways I was wondering if anyone knows when to expect a response from them if i am called for an interview.
Until I got their email, i had assumed they were done reviewing me and rejected me. Ive heard government agencies do take a really long time.

Thanks a bunch guys...... and I wish all you seniors applying for jobs luck!!!

You can absolutely email them, especially if you have your recruiter’s contact information. You may have gotten lost in the shuffle somewhere - remind them you exist and are excited for the second interviews.

Sending your information to the relevant department means they have somewhere in mind that they think you would fit. They will send your info to that department and, if they like you, you will probably hear from them in the next few weeks.

Thanks Maea!!! Yeah I was thinking of emailing them Monday after this Thanksgiving week. I have another friend who also hasn’t gotten a response so I was thinking of waiting a little longer… I was told that these companies can take awhile. I just am not sure if it shows that I’m desperate or impatient… which I am lol.

Regarding homeland security, it all depends on which agency you applied for and what position.

A non-sworn position without a clearance won’t take as long to process than a sworn/cleared position. Cleared positions can take up to 2 years from application to first day work, sometimes more…I know people who’ve waited over 3 years, one who applied and interviewed and never heard back for about 5 years, then randomely got a call asking if he was still interested.

The best advice I can give you regarding federal jobs is to apply, then go on with your life and forget about the application. don’t turn down any good job offers because you want to wait for the federal government, you’ll just be screwing yourself.

Hey, just bumping this post… due to some recent developments. I recently emailed them again back around late November after Thanksgiving but they still haven’t responded. Can firms really accept you into 2nd round interviews and then simply not give them? I mean i know there’s no law saying they can’t do that, but i find that rather unprofessional and dishonest. Especially if they bothered to accept you. Anyway, I guess this means I should move on then right?

Ask yourself whether you would want to be a part of a company that would handle its future so carelessly. Remember that although you feel like just a candidate for jobs, the reasons companies look for new hires is to strengthen their business. Look at yourself as an asset to any potential companies, and recognize that if a company doesn’t appear to want you, you probably don’t want them.

yeah ive moved on and started applying elsewhere… i just find it unfortunate that there are companies that do this. If you got accepted and then they decided to change their minds… it’d be nice if they could at least email you about it. I guess Im just getting desperate really. Oh well, just gotta keep with it i guess.

Hold your head up high. You’ll be fine I just finished my job search and most companies got back to me about second rounds a few days to one week after the interview and then up to one additional week to send the details, so I think it’s more than okay to pester the company at two weeks if they’ve promised you something.
