2 quick questions

Ok, this one is really lame and easy. But you know how in high school they give you agenda planners for your work and stuff. Do they give those out at orientation or should I buy my own? I saw some really cute ones at Walmart but don't want to waste 4 bucks if I'll be given one.

I'm in HSS, which math route should I take, like what's the difference? I see that as part of my major requirement for IR, I need to either take

21-111 Calculus I AND 21-121 Calculus II
- OR -
21-120 Differential and Integral Calculus

I'm signed up for 21-121 integration and differential equations. This would meet my requirement right b/c it's a level up from 21-120, right? Why would anyone pick the first option of taking 2 classes over taking just 1? Is 21-120/21-121 (what I'm signed up for) a year long class or just a harder class in one semester? Am I just missing something here?

Oh, I also want to double in finance in Tepper if that makes a difference.

Not in HSS you won’t. I think CIT might give out free planners. I’ve never used one so if there were free ones being given out I never saw them.

It’s not 21-121, it’s 21-112  Unless it’s changed this year, then: If you were placed there by the calc exam, yes you can just take 21-112. Otherwise, no, because you can’t even take 21-112 unless you took 21-111 or were placed into it. You won’t be able to register; the system will say you don’t have the necessary prereqs.

21-111 and 21-112 are two facets of the same class. It is a slower-paced calc route. 21-120 is a harder level class.

^lol you’re right that calc II is 21-112, my bad, I just switched them around. I was actually placed into 21-121 integration and differential equations above 21-120, so I should just stick with that then and it would suffice? I love math but my high school kind of sucks, I’m afraid 21-121 will be too hard for me. Blah.

Yep, that’d be just fine then! And the test is supposed to be a kind of litmus exam for how well you could handle the course - if you scored well enough to get into 121, then you shouldn’t have too much trouble. Theoretically you could take 120 and just review material you’ve already done and get an easy A though, and it would fulfill requirements and help you get into a double major in Tepper at the same time.

^Hmmmm, I might do that. Idk how they put me in 121 b/c I hadn’t even finished all of the placement tests, I had 2 left to go and they placed me in 121. Then, when I did do the last 2 I could only do 2 problems out of both tests combined. Hmmm… I’ll ask my adviser I guess! Thanks!
