20 and 19 units during fall and spring semesters

So I was a part time student for the past 2 semesters and I want to at least apply to UCLA as an econ major. I’m planning on taking a spot as a board member in our honor society and starting up a club with some of my friends, and I just wanted to get your opinions on how hard this would be.
Class I’m gonna take are:
Fall - Calculus A, Econ 1A, Chinese 1, Critical thinking, Physiology 1
Spring - Calculus B, Econ 1B, Chinese 2, Philosophy - Ethics and Moral

calc and a language class sounds super tough and econ could be super hard depending on the teacher. It sounds like you know better than us what you will be able to do, but remember that, for the most part, grades are the most important part of a transfer application, so getting straight A’s in pretty important.

I’d split that load into 2 years. As stated above, for econ at UCLA you will need a darn near perfect GPA. Juggling that load in addition to your increased ECs might be to much.

UCs don’t care how long you spend at a CC.

If you think you can handle it, go for it. I do think language and math in a semester in addition to any other class may be a bit much. At my school, I actually had to get permission from the dean himself to take 21 units. I took Spanish and Stats in addition to object oriented c++, data structures with c++, symbolic logic, and physical anthropology. I didn’t think Spanish would be hard since I’m Mexican or that stats would be difficult, but this was the first semester I messed up and got a very low B in the math class. It’d be cool if maybe you could try for a course in the summer or winter though just so you don’t have so much on your plate.

Alright, thanks guys, I guess I’ll split it into 2 years, not super confident that I can do it all in 1 year so that probably means I’m not ready to do that

I took a nearly identical course load to your course load (Calc + Language + Econ + etc) for my first year at Foothill College. It’s quarter system, but I took 20 units per quarter. I thought it was actually easy to manage while doing an internship, and I ended up getting straight As even after my Fall 2015 quarter where I took an increased course load for 24 units.

It really depends on you. I had pretty good grades in high school and chose community college just to transfer to UC Berkeley Haas. If you feel that you’re academically disciplined, I’m sure you can do it.

It also depends on how familiar you are with language, and how good you are in math. If you think you can do both and maintain good grades, I would say go for it.

That workload is possible. I’ve done a 22 unit semester.

yeah, this is definitely possible. now, if we were hypothetically speaking about like a bunch of STEM courses, then that probably wouldn’t be the smartest idea. lmao im talking about myself since im taking multivariable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra all at the same time in addition to psychology…haha don’t be like me…

anyway, in the end, it’s really up to your work ethic!
