19 Units for this Spring Semester?

Hello Everyone,
Im new to this kind of forum and would like to get other peoples ideas and perspective on how many units are just too much to handle? This is my first year of college (Freshmen!) which I'm now in my second semester. So far, I have 12 Units completed all together (Physics, English 1, and Statistics. Yes I know only three classes...) and currently enrolled in 19 units for spring to fulfill my 30 unit per year path in order to transfer to a UC within two years. I am enrolled in Biology 3, Psychology 1, Anthropology 1, Poli Sci 1, Philosophy 1, and Sociology 1. (I know the numbers or the class numbers vary by different colleges). I know for UCLA some of these classes are not their pre req (which ill be done with by spring YAY) but other classes are to fulfill the needs for UCB. I am majoring in psychology btw. I have never taken this many classes/ units in one semester so I would like to know if anyone here had this many units done in one semester or had the same or similar schedule as me. I know you guys don't know me and don't know what Im capable of doing but Im just a regular student like anybody else that has to study hard and earn their grades. I know I can take summer classes but from what I see, I won't be able to take anything during summer since I will be enlisting or I should say going into the reserves so I will have to go to bootcamp during that time. Am I in the right path or will I be even though I drop a class? Please help me.... Thank you!

Yes you’re doin good, you can drop a class if you think the workload is too much band take it in summer if you want that’s what I would do, but other than that just look up IGETC and try to fulfill that as well as any major prep listed on Assist.org for the UC you would like to transfer to.

Right now, I’m doing Calc, Cell/Molecular Bio, G Chem 1, English, and a Geography class for 20 Units and I’m doing fine. It’s a good amount of work, but not unbearable, and I still have a lot of free time. I don’t know the major reqs for Pysch, but if it’s anything like BioChem/Bio/other life sciences, you won’t be able to transfer in 2 years since you haven’t started Calc or Chemistry. Once again, not sure of the reqs, but just a heads up. And good luck with your schedule! I would only really worry about that bio class, the others seem pretty easy compared to it.

@uclaplz nice course load, impressive.
@collegetalks12 I would say bio is your only really serious course. The rest will mostly depend on the teacher. Usually 1 (which I assume means introduction courses) at a CC level are pretty easy. Do nothing 90% of the time, do any hw or assignment and start reviewing a few days before the test.

During Spring 2013, I took 19 units just like you. Anthropology and Philosophy was also in my cavalry of classes and I still managed to pass all of them with a 3.3 GPA. Half of my professors had bad ratings/teaching styles and it was doable. I think you should be able to pass all of them too if you put your mind on it. I usually spend my entire weekends (Saturday and Sundays) preparing notes/studying/doing homework for the classes. Fortunately, I could avoid schoolwork on Fridays since I’m out the entire day and survived. I was never that straight A/AP student in HS and managed now.

I knew someone who took 21 units and survived too.

Bottom line, you have to study for your grades. If you’re going to slack off, stay around the 14 units area. Otherwise, you’re good :).

Thank you everyone who has commented and helped me come up with my decisions. I have decided to stick with 16 units this semester as it seemed to be too much to handle with homework and studying. I wanted to maintain good GPA somewhere around 3.9 or higher so I didn’t want to perform bad even though some of the classes were easy.
@uclaplz those are some heavy load of classes I wish you best of luck and my next fall schedule seems to be somewhere the same as you. Which is English 2, Cell/ Molecular Biology, Calc 1, and Anthropology. Im already worrying about those classes…
