2006 Calc BCers

Hey everyone. I am going to pose a question I try to refrain from posting because I know it's a question that no one really knows the answer to. Basically I took the Calc BC exam and I thought I did pretty well. I only answered 35 MC questions but I am almost positive I got them all right. The FR went decent and I'm predicting a decent score on that. My question is did you get the result you expected? Did you think the curve may have been lenient? How did your predicted score compare to your actual. Thanks in advance and please don't rip me apart for asking this "question."

if you got a 66.66666% on MC and something around that on Free-response, you will get a 5..

The cutoff on BC Calc tends to be around 60% (+- 4 points) for a 5..

you'll do fine! the curve is always very lenient..

any other comments?

You go into the exam knowing that the curve is quite possibly the most lenient of any AP test out there. And yes, I got what I expected.

:D omg i got a 5? I totally screwed up the FR. possibly less than 50%

MC I panicked. Went to the end and worked backwards, missed easy stuff. Guessed a lot!

Did not know taylor/maclaurin, and still don't know, actually. Didn't know polar areas. and still don't know... le grange who?

oh, yea! i rock!

Yes, I also got the score I expected, though my case might not be very typical since I was getting higher than the usual 70% cutoff on practice tests.

(I don't know how to do quotes on this forum so...)

-Am I the only one who thought infinite series were the coolest part of calc BC (not to mention the main difference between that and AB)
-Polar areas (as most other BC topics) are only on one or two MC max and may or may not appear on the FR, from my experience with practice tests.
-"le grange who?" Um, Lagrange, French mathematician (kinda like L'Hopital), first has a rule with his name appear in calc III (Lagrange Multipliers) I believe.
Not to be picky, but I kinda like math.

yea, the mc w/ calculator was really hard i thought, so did my friends, the free response in general i thought was average. I did well on the practice tests, though i thought the actual test was a bit more difficult than the ones i practiced with.....i got a better score than i expected when i took it(well, maybe i was just really nervous/stressed/paranoid the day of the test), so the curve was def. not really "harsh".

I thought the MC was easy...that sparknotes power pack helped A LOT... I went from 25 raw score in january to 38 in the sparknotes test, and on the actual test I think I got no more than 1 wrong, and a a raw score of 41/42 on the (left a few blank) MC. As for FR, I kinda winged a few sections because I didn't understand part 3 c. about the asmptote/integral problem and didnt until I saw the answers posted on some site. I estimate I got probably 35 - 40 on the FR just to underestimate. I'm pretty sure that when it all adds up it's a comfortable 5.

"Am I the only one who thought infinite series were the coolest part of calc BC (not to mention the main difference between that and AB)"

Nope, because I'd say the same thing!

MC in general i thought was hard and FR was really easy - i'm pretty sure i got close to full points on FR since my super nerdy teacher made an answer key to the released questions two days after.

polar areas came up once on an FR - 2005 exam, and screwed over a lot of people.

bump.........

quantum leap, (cool sn btw) Perhaps the airhead voice impression and/or diction like "did not know" came over too strong.

I love math, as you will see by my extremely corny and esoteric pun intended sn. :)

I was by no means surprised by my 5. I was merely elated. But I still think the curve was pretty generous.

dude AP Calc curves are soooooooo lenient,

my calc teacher explained about the free response. each FR is worth around 9 points. the national average on most problems ranges from 2-5 points per problem. you get points for showing your work. it's astoundingly easy.

the curve is always lenient.. dont something like 40% of test takers get a 5?

to me, my result was not surprising.

lh0pital i like your username.

That's great. I had a similar experience to l0pitalrules - I'm sure that my AB subscore will be a five, but as I had to teach myself all the BC stuff, I'm glad to know that I still have a shot at a five.
