2006: How Many Colleges Did You Apply To?

4 total 3 SUNY + TOSU

My son applied to nine, and so far he has been very lucky--he's in at 5 and waiting to hear from the other 4. So far he is in at Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, George Mason and University of Denver. So at least he will have to make a choice from schools he is happy to attend. Right now he doesn't even want to think about making a decision!

EIGHTEEN!!! WOO WOO! I wonder what the world record is for most schools applied to and accepted to is...

Anyone know?

4

..............................

I applied to 9 schools 6 ivy league and three non ivy

I applied to 10.

Two applications:
United States Air Force Academy
Notre Dame

applied to 4
1 reach, 1 match, 2 safety (one match if considering Honors program)

17.....i didnt realize what deep **** i was in until a few weeks before deadlines

21 schools, all top Lacs and ivies as well as Queens, Western, UT and McGill in canada

I was going to apply to 10, but I got into my first choice on Dec. 9, so I only ended up applying to 4.

applying to 19 schools, got deferrred from safety state school!
top choice northwestern

I find it horrendous that people apply to more than 10. That really shows that you have no idea what to look for in a college, if you really can't narrow it down to less than 10.

People think that I'm ridiculous for applying to 7 (3 Ivies, WashU, Chicago, NCSU, and UNC-CH)

I don't agree ... there are multiple scenarios where applying to 10+ schools might make sense. If someone is applying to 3-4 matches and safeties as well as reaches with very low acceptance rates (among HYPMS AWS types) someone could easily go beyond 10 applications in a rational way (if they have the time). Second, I would think anyone seeking substantial merit aid would have the best odds by casting a wide net looking for that aid. In addition, people appling to speciality program with tough admissions ... performing arts, architecture, etc ... might well be aided by lots of applications.

All that said I would also hope to see some consistency in what the student is looking for ... it's pretty hard to make a case for applying to all 8 Ivies for example.

S applied to 5:

Stanford (EA, in)
Harvard
Yale
MIT (most unlikely to go there)
Washington (not going)

Applied to one school and got in.

US Air Force Academy

8 Colleges

16 colleges

Nine schools

four colleges
