2006 Winter Olympics

bode did ok. Fatigue got to him and he was standing up too much at the end
I feel for Daron Ralhves thought, not bode

downhill skiing and halfpipe are amazing. Although I've started watching shorttrack and it looks interesting.

as a figure skater, i loved michelle kwan... but i really dont think she would have won anyways... that being said, still, i wanted her to be an olympic champ...but she's clearly fallen behind the others in the sport...

i'm rooting for sasha cohen now.

Anybody see the short-track relays last night. It was crazy...16 people on the track, but really only four racing at a time. From what I saw, it looks a little like track relays but instead of having a baton to pass, they push each other. It was weird, but once I understood it it was more interesting.

I felt bad for Apollo Anton Ohno last night though. He looked really confused too when he almost missed his race, and the judges tried to stop him from jumping over the wall onto the track! haha, everybody was so confused!

it's sad about Michelle Kwan. She's basically been figure skating for the last decade. People forget though, that Irina Slutskaya's actually two years older than Kwan (so it's not just her age). Since I'm a figure skater, obviously skatng's my favorite, but I like watching ice dance the most (Drobiazko and Vanagas -- watch them if you don't know who they are). And they're actually broadcasting the compulsory dance, which is incredibly exciting.

Anybody watch Apollo the speed skater yesterday..man he screwed up..he is good too.

I think Apollo is having a bad week. He just can't get a break. Poor guy. I loved the pairs skating last night. But like... three pairs skated to music from "The Mission" (in short and long programs together). I was liek I know this music.... I thouhgt no one else liked this music, and then everybody was skating to it and I was like... weird. I loved the polish couple's routine. I was disappointed the german's didn't do mirror footwork like in the final. I missed the russian freeskate b/c I was tired, but I know everybody was like "omg they're all so good" and I was like "just wait until you see the russians"
Joey Cheek!

haha, I LOVE Apollo. I saw him in his pjs once when he was getting popcorn in the cafeteria. It was funny because it was pretty soon after the 2002 olympics and we were all like "is...that...apollo...anton...ohno????" and the resident athletes were just all chill about it. Anyway, I felt bad for him because he didn't even need to pass the guy. Seems like he was pretty shooken up after that race when he almost missed his second one. I thought it was funny how the refs were stopping him so he moved like 5 feet to the left and jumped over the rail. haha, he showeed them! I hope he wins his other races and can put this bad race behind him.

Anybody watch women's snowboarding last night? There was a 16 year old on the US team and like a true CC'er, I thought to myself "wow, that's going to be an amazing hook when she applies to college." This CC addiction has defintiely corrupted my mind :(

I love to watch the Olympics ..I thought i was the only one! I like to watch it all but hockey.

But the Summer Olympics are wayyyyy better because theres running :p

Anyways did anyone see the womens halfpipe last night? I think like two americans medeled...

The Mission is the most overused music in skating history. There's 15 listings for it on a website that tracks music -- and that's just between 1990 and 2000, and it often doesn't inlcude skaters who weren't televised or didn't declare their music. Alissa Czisny skated to it last year. BeBe Liang skated to it two years ago. Matt Savoie, Carolina Kostner, Zagorska/Siudek and Hinzmann/Parchem are all using it this year -- and those are just the people I can think o right now.

that's funny b/c I've been watching skating forever and have never head it before. oh well. I think the nutcracker is the most overused music but oh well.

Ohno's an Olympic disappointment. He won medals at Salt Lake City, but neither of them were clean. His Gold came with the disqualification of Kim Dong Sung for allegedly blocking him, while his Silver was a result of a spectacular crash that took out most of his competition (himself included, but he recovered the fastest). I'm not denying he's a great skater, because his world championships attest to that fact, but he's a fraud of an Olympian. For all the hype the American media machine has put on him, he hasn't delivered.

And now, in Torino with a chance to silence his critics, he fails to even qualify for the finals of the race that brought him his infamy (1500m).

I noticed that in contrast, the Koreans that failed last time have smashed everyone else that has come along. I wonder if those same Koreans would have won the other races without the incidents.

I agree with your sentiment that the Ohno incident has added fuel to their fire.

The one thing I remember was not the actual event so much as the aftermath.

hmm i agree with you nbachris but i still hope he does well since he's an american. change of topic but did anyone see the pairs skating last night? a girl killed her knee and they stopped the music and everything for a couple minutes and then she was suddenly ok... and they went on to win the silver! i expected them to be disqualified

No, I did not. Was that after 2200?

Yeah, that was crazy. From China I think?

yea that was crazy...they still won silver right?

Seriously, the Olympics makes everything exciting. I'll be sitting around my house doing homework or whatever, and I'll watch the most boring sports, but it's still awesome.

Like...wow, I watched a cross country skiing race, and this guy got run over right in the beginning, and he was the fourth place skiier up to that point, and all the commentaters were all saying he was out of the race or whatever because he broke his ski, but his coach hooked a new one on and his teammates were at the front of the pack and they slowed everyone down by weaving back and forth so no one could pass, and the guy caught up and ended up getting the silver medal because his teammates were so awesome.

OMG, I was like...this is why I love the Olympics.

But I love couples figure skating the most.
