Is the move in date at the dorms August 20th, the weekend before, or do they just randomly assign you a weekend spot? Also, what's the parking situation like for move in?

Move in is the weekend of 18/19; probably triples on Sat and doubles on Sun. Starts in the morning and was very smooth process at Unit 1 (at least) last October. Plenty of carts, plenty of people to check you in, plenty of 15 minute parking to drop of your stuff.

You should get some kind of message about when move-in day is. EVERYONE moves in on the same day regardless of what kind of room you have. Get there early. Parking is hell. If possible, have 2 people come with you. One person to watch your stuff and help you unload, and the other to drive around looking for a parking space. The main goal is to get to your room and claim the bed that you want before your roommates get there. After that, expect to spend 2-3 hours getting stuff up to the room. Don't bother unpacking until you say bye to your parents. You'll have A LOT of free time the first week before classes. And go out to parties with your floormates. It makes for a nice bonding experience. Don't worry, all the frats are expecting herds of freshmen.

Fall 2006 move in for Doubles was on Sunday, the triples moved in on Saturday.

berkeleygirl: what dorm do you live in? sounds like you had a really bad experience last year...

Thanks for the hit on move in dates. Whether it's Sat or Sun, at least I know it's the weekend before. Does everyone come for that and is that when you meet your roommate?

You get your room mate info a few weeks before (as long as they also agreed to have their info released.) E-mail and/or phone.
Almost all freshman seem to move in on move in day and there are ALOT of activities (and parties) for the entire week. It's a good time to make friends, find your way around, have fun, and get settled in... you won't want to miss out.
