Goodness, I feel like I was filling that out yesterday. Anyway, Class of 2011, go forth and apply!

Yup yup!! Finished mine last night. My guidance counselor sent out the transcript and counselor form today. One app down, five to go. Where else are you applying onsilverwings and everyone else who's applying to PSU?

Sorry! I misread your post onsilverwings. I see you are not from class of '11. Are you a current student?

Good luck to all Penn State applicants!

Hee, I'm excited that you applied JH2007. I'll be a freshman at PSU in the fall.

JH2007, you are all done with essays, etc?! Wow! I haven't even finalized my essays yet! probably going to be another month of tweaking, etc :(

I might be applying/going to Penn State.
we'll see if BU wins me over first...

Nice silver. Which of the wonderful East Halls are you in?!

Yea, jai with the personal statement and activities page being optional and the rest of the app being pretty simple, it didn't take long. Plus, I didn't apply for Schreyers. Where else are you applying jai? Alan, are you only applying to BU and PSU? What do you guys want to major in?

Hey JH2007...

I was told that the personal statement and activties essay was recommended ( although optional ) and hence, am probably going to have to do it.. Doh!

Am considering applying to UPenn, Brown, Columbia, Northeastern, BU and Penn State. I might add or remove few colleges as the I vist more and more..

Wow! If you're applying to those schools, PSU is probably a HUGE safety for you. I honestly wouldn't worry about the activities and statement. They won't even look at that stuff. They'll see a great GPA and awesome SAT or ACT and then seal your letter. Good luck at those other schools!

jais6638 - if you're applying to Brown, Penn and Columbia, then you should apply to PSU Schreyer honors. There, the essays really DO count - and if you get in, you get $, priority registration, smaller classes, travel abroad grants and more. It is hard to get in (not as hard as Penn, Brown and Columbia though!). Avg SAT is low 1400s. Good luck!

jai, be used to be in the same boat!
Though I've narrowed down my choices because of soccer, and just recently crossed UPenn off my list :/

Hello there...

I have a 3.8 unwieghted GPA and an ACT score of 29 ( which I hope to get up to a 30-31). Do I have a good chance for the schreyes honors program? I am not sure if I want to go to PSU though.. From my perspective, its in the middle of nowhere whic his a big disadvantage for me.

I agree PSU main has a terrible location (one of my siblings went there for 4 years). If you are the partying/football type, you'll love it though. :)
If you get your ACT upto a 30-31, you will stand a decent chance of getting into the honors program.

If you apply really early, say right now in August, and you have a 4.0 GPA with a 1300 SAT score, is it really necessary to check off the summer session on the application to get into the main campus of Penn State? Also, do you think the Schreyer Honor college would even consider someone with a 1300?

You should apply to Schreyer if you have a 1300 SAT and can compete with good SAT II scores, good recommendations, and probably most important... great essays.

jai - not sure how ACT scores translate to SAT - the equivalent of a 1300 would be absolute minimum (even though they say 1350 on the website). 3.8 GPA sounds good but weighted is also important. ECs are also VERY important - they like kids with balance who show talents in areas other than pure academics. Regarding the location, I would recommend a visit. It is pretty far from NY, Pitt, and Philly (3 hours) but it's like a small city in there - lots of bars, shops restaurants, three music venues (Bryce Jordan, Performing Arts Center and the new baseball stadium), golf courses, ski mountain, plus the football (of course). The campus is big, bustling and beautiful. Seems very similar to Cornell, UVA and UNC from that standpoint. Schreyers is a really good program - give it a shot.

Toneranger, from the charts I've seen, a 29 is equivalent to 1320 but I hope to get my ACT scores since I will be taking it for the second time.

The location is a big con for me.... I think I'd prefer a campus in a city like boston, etc but I guess I'm going to apply to PSU anyways as a safety. I visited it last week.. Its got a great campus and a decent sized international population so no harm seeing how much financial aid I get..

I will be applying as an international student though so my question is, does PSU offer financial aid to internationals?

I have heard that PSU is not very good with financial aid - for international or US students. They do offer some departmental scholarships and Schreyer gives you a $3500 scholarship if you get in. Check the website for more info. Good luck.

Is anyone having trouble accessing the PSU website today?
