I am going into my freshman year at PSU planning to major in biology.

alannancp: BU and PSU are really, really different. I applied to a bunch of Ivies and similar schools which I did not get into and ended up choosing between PSU, BU, and American. I crossed off American and ended up revisiting PSU and BU and choosing between them. Each has its advantages so I had a hard time choosing between the two schools but once you visit both I'd guess there's a decent chance that you will strongly prefer one or the other.

pjmuffin16: There is no reason NOT to apply with a willingness to go to another campus or to start during the summer. If you would get into UP for the fall, you're not going to be forced to start during the summer or at a different campus just because you said you'd be willing to. If you ended up getting either summer start or another campus you wouldn't have gotten in fall UP anyway.

Yeah, PSU is in the middle of nowhere... I don't think anyone would call it a boring place to be though, there are 40,000 undergraduates there, there is going to be something to do. If you really like city life though for the social scene (if you'd rather go to a club than a traditional college party) or for some other specific reason sure you might not like its location.

If PSU is not your dream school, and you are considering it as a safety, really consider Schreyers. I did not apply because I didn't think I was going to be going to PSU and I really regret it. Now I am already thinking about transferring -- I'm not going to go into PSU expecting to not have a good experience, but I have enough time this summer that I'm trying to read some of the old transfer forum posts on here and get a feel for what its like. I think I'd be much happier with PSU if I was in Schreyers and I probably wouldn't even be thinking about the possibility of going somewhere else.

jai - no you apply to each separately (although you MUST apply to PSU in order to apply to Schreyer). You will hear regarding acceptance at different times. Usually PSU lets you know a few weeks after application - in the fall. Schreyer sends out decisions in mid Feb. There are plenty of kids who get rejected at Schreyer but still decide to attend PSU.
David 06 - I would recommend that you try to take some honors courses and perhaps apply to Schreyer in your sophomore year (if you're still there). I do agree that anyone who has good stats should apply to Schreyer - and attend some of the info sessions they hold. They offer one on one interviews as well, upon request. The app is rather tough - but it's worth a shot.

jai - apply early to PSU and you find out early (rolling decisions). Most students get acceptances in Nov and Dec.
1moremom: All I know about is Dylan on Sept 3 - but I read that they are planning more music acts in the future. Good thing since they won't use the football stadium for music acts (like Ohio State does). JoePa thinks it would ruin the turf.

Sean Paul is playin.....
David I wouldn't start thinkin about transfering until im sure that PSU wasn't the school for me. Its much different actually being a student than visiting ;) believe me.

Sure, my opinion might change afer a semester or two, but I don't see the harm in learning about what would be required to transfer... If I decide to stay, all I will have lost are a few hours spent on these forums and other websites.

I always thought I would hate PSU because my sis attended and everyone wanted me to go there. I visited and I loved it. The location isn't bad as someone said. It's great. It has awesome school spirit, sports, and not a bad academic reputation. I'm graduating in 07 from high school and I can't wait to enter PSU fall 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
