Subjective:

Essays: I honestly don't remember. The first two were kinda personal, but then my "Why Georgetown" was just my "Why Northwestern" with Chicago changed to Washington changed to D.C, Bulls changed to Wizards, etc. haha

Teacher Recs: i only read one. it was good. nothing spectacular though.

Counselor Rec: didn't read it. i have a pretty good relationship with him though

Interview - Haha this is the funniest part. I didn't even do one. Haha i was expecting to get deferred because of this. Isn't it mandatory?

Hook (if any): I'm black. Enough said.

Location/Person:

State or Country: TX

School Type: Private

*Other Factors: nope. that's pretty much it.

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: i really don't care haha. i was expecting to get deferred anyway. i got a likely letter from harvard a couple weeks ago to run track, so i'm kinda done.

"* Hook (if any): I'm black. Enough said. "

Best. =] I <3. It's funny cos its true. At least you embrace it!

ok token89 no offense to you at all, but why did you have to tell us that you aren't commiting. I am glad you got in, don't get me wrong... However, being deferred EA, it really sucks to see someone apply for the HELL of it.

I know this sounds bitter bc I was not accepted EA but please don't act like it is a joke. Plenty of us chose Gtown as a 1st choice and yet you just laugh it up bc you can....

Unfortunately, I agree with Timmer. If you're posting that form for informational purposes, why add in there 'i really don't care haha. i was expecting to get deferred anyway'? That seems unnecessary. It also seems like you are an attention seeking whore who basically took up someone's EA just because you wanted an ego boost. Seems pretty unfair to me...

sorry guys

Decision: Deferred from College

Subjective:

Essays: the personal statement and short one were AMAZING. the georgetown one was pretty good

Teacher Recs: not bad

Counselor Rec: really really really really good

Hook (if any): [whatever you think made your app special, etc. - WHETHER YOU WERE ACCEPTED OR NOT!] i was born with a birth defect and am a community leader?

Location/Person:

State or Country: Georgia

School Type: public (almost 3,000 kids)

Ethnicity: white

Gender: female

*Extracurriculars: Model UN, StudCo, NHS, Beta, Basketball, French, Church, and a ton of stuff

*Other Factors: birth defect? lots of leadership awards

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: G-Town is my first choice, by far, and am devestated to get deferred. If you know you're not going ot go there, please withdraw your application. It's not fair to us who really want to go there for our spot to be taken because you want to go somewhere else and just want to be "in somewhere." I really really really want to go there so please help a girl out!!! I know my stats don't seem like I should go there, but I really believe I deserve to go there (especially if you saw my application).

Goodluck Boscababe110

It's ok token89, I'm sure in a few days they'll get over their bitterness. You shouldn't have not applied to Gtown just because it wasn't your first choice, that wouldn't have been logical, and even if it was sort of a safety for you, its even somewhat good you put that so other can gauge what a tracking-running URM's chances are haha. If everyone only applied to their first choice schools there would be a lot less college-bound high school seniors! In addition, I'm sure some of us applied to BC EA even when we really had no intention of going there.

i never really considered georgetown as a safety, but after getting into harvard, georgetown doesn't really seem so great right now. everyone has schools like that on their list. thanks redcod.

Boscababe110, I'm with you. I'm also from Georgia, and I was deferred. It was definitely my first choice, and I'm pretty upset (probably going to fail my finals tomorrow..)

Decision: Deferred from SFS

SAT IIs: 740 (US), 750 (World History)

GPA: 3.97/ Around 95.75

3 on AP Physics B

Senior Course:
AP Lit
AP Span
AP Micro/Macro Econ
AP American/Comparative Gov
AP BC Calc
Journalism

Subjective:
* Essays: I spent four months on my "About Me" and I really liked it. My political one was okay.
* Teacher Recs: No idea, we're not allowed to look.
* Counselor Rec: Same ^
* Hook (if any): Er..I can't think of one.

Location/Person:

State or Country: Georgia

School Type: Public

Ethnicity: Asian

Gender: Female

*Extracurriculars:
President of History Club, Vice President of Model UN, Treasurer of Asian Cultural Club, Managing Editor of the Literary Magazine, Historian of NHS, Spanish NHS, Beta, Mu Alpha Theta, Academic Bowl

*Other Factors: I've won various writing awards and awards for History Club. AP Scholar with Distinction after junior year.

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Do they not look at the difficulty of your course load?

Yeah. Still torn. Winter break isn't going to be fun. Rushing through the rest of my applications..

i'm sorry for being accepted. better luck next time. don't be mad at me though because you didn't get accepted. there are hundreds of other kids in my exact situation. that's the nature of EA.

token you shouldn't have to apologize for being accepted...obviously you deserve it (i mean harvard, that is truly awesome! i got a call from them but no likely letter). just be careful with your wording...alot of people would love to be in your position, so it kinda hurts when someone scoffs on our own message board lol

-still congrats!!!!!, just try to chill with the "who cares"- especially when everyone is kind of sensitive still

well, first of all, I am not saying don't apply anywhere.

But come on, don't tell the forum of deferred ppl that you really "don't care" becasue you have something better. I think I speak for many that agree. I am not trying to insult you about your achievement and I understand the "nature" of EA.

So I ask why do you have to say that you "didn't care?"

I got in to the SFS :) And though this may be depressing for some but uplifting for others, I have to say: the literary quality of your essays clearly doesn't make or break your acceptance as long as you have other factors going for you. Because after reading over my own recently, I winced several times and expected a deferral. I'll post my stats later (hopefully copying and pasting from UChicago will work out) in case anyone's counting.

alright. well i guess i take it back.
i was ecstatic when i saw the fat envelopment in the mail today.

Decision: Deferred from College

Teacher Recs: only read one-amazing, but then again aren't they all?

Counselor Rec: very good, even hinted that georgetown was my top choice

Interview - Again, I thought went very well- the guy told me i was exactly the kind of student they are looking for (maybe they all say that)

Hook (if any): I guess good test scores, solid extracurriculars

Weakness: My GPA and rank killed me

additional comments: was kinda *ed off thought i had solid chance despite low grades) , but after seeing the quality of applicants that still got deferred, i dont feel quite so *ty. congratulations to anyone who got in and to those of you who now must wait like jackasses until april like myself, good luck

i think its more the fact that people who arent planning on attending are taking the spots of those deferred, like myself. we dont mean to berade ppl who were accepted but arent going there, but it sux when u think u deserve to go there and now have to wait until april to see if ur going to ur dream school.
to me, early action or decision is for those who want this school to be their final choice. and gtown is my final choice, and am devestated i have to wait till april to see if im in or not.

anyone have any good tips to improve my chances!?

As far as increasing your chances for admission RD goes, I would say:

Send a letter to Gtown, so that they know youre really interested in going. They like to get a high yield rate, and if they know you will absolutely attend if accepted, it helps your chances

Work on getting your standardized test scores up, unless they are already really great.

Any new achievements youve made or activities youve participated in, attach them to your resume and resubmit that. And if you dont have a resume, MAKE ONE! ITs a great way for them to see your all accomplishments consolidated onto a page or two, and it shows just how accomplished you are.

Good luck to those of you who have been deferred, and I am deeply deeply sorry.

EA is about numbers only. High SAT (2300+) and class rank (top 5%) are pretty much essential, unless you're an athlete or have legacy status. RD is when they loosen up.
