Oh zoosermom, how frustrating. Didn't she realize this is the year they count? Kids! I had a friend whose son didn't bother to take them junior year figuring he'd taken them as a sophomore. Also in spitting distance of being a NMF.

Good thing they don't really matter all that much, except for designating first choice for $2000. Zoozermom, D did the same thing went to 199 junior year! ( 1 point away)

Oh she realized alright. We call her "Satan" because she's somewhat difficult. Ultimately, though, she isn't going to reach. Barnard was her highest reach and it has slowly fallen out of favor. Despite the IB diploma, AP scores, and truly interesting ECs, she's probably going to end up at Seton Hall or a very local school, possibly even a CUNY. and she has the right to make that choice even if I don't agree.

ZM, S's score went down 8 points from last year's PSAT to this year's; he was not a happy camper.

Zoosermom, last year I was also disappointed in Son's PSAT. What you have to remember is that (other than losing lots of possible NMS money), there's no bad consequence from a lower than you wanted PSAT. We just put it behind us. Funny - Son's 11th grade score was pretty much what your daughter's 11th grade score was, and his SATs were pretty much what her 10th grade score would indicate your daughter's will be. He's qualified for some nice merit aid with that SAT, even with less than stellar grades.

I'm not upset about the scores at all. I find it kind of funny in a sick way. I'm not keen on her moodiness about testing, though.

A lot of folks seem to be reporting that scores were lower this year. Maybe this will translate into lower qualifying scores for NMSF this fall. (Hey, a mom can dream, right?) :)

After the GC telling me that they "hoped" they would get the scores out before Christmas, I emailed her again today and found out that they have the scores ready, but they won't be handed out in English until Jan 12th! Grrrr. She recommended that I email the person in charge of that to see if we can get the access code before then. So I just shot off a very nice email asking if that was possible. Sigh.

Question about the access code: for those of you who have both sophomore and junior paper reports, are they similar codes? And has anyone else noticed that the last 3 numbers match the score?

Rob, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason and the last 3 numbers don't match the score.

I respect your willingness to let D make her own choices rather than force parental ambitions on her.

Oh, zmom, what a bummer. And what a bummer to everyone whose kids' scores dropped.

Meanwhile, I'll just wait until mid-January for the %$&* score and for now will be left wondering whether ds's will drop, too.

Youdon'tsay, I think that accepting attitude entitles you to one extra festive beverage of your choice this holiday season!

VP, I think she's making a mistake, but I don't think I have the right to do anything other than politely explain why I hold that view.

Thanks, zmom! I'm being treated to a birthday lunch today, so I think I'll take that festive beverage about an hour from now ... :D

RobD ~ I don't think the last 3 numbers of the access code having any relation to the score. My S's last 3 digits were outside of the scoring range (above 240) both years.

Thanks for the replies; when I tried plugging the sophomore access code in, I noticed that the last 3 digits matched her score, so of course I assumed :)

RobD - what a coincidence. :)

zoosermom - sorry to hear about your D's drop in scores. I know you must be disappointed, even if you're okay with it.

Zoosermom,
I take hope in that whatever choices my kids make, if they are happy, they will be more likely to succeed. We can never be sure in life which path will be the one that makes all the difference!

Owlice, what grade is your S? Will he have another chance next year for the PSAT or is he off to SAT-land now? Did the point drop happen in one subject more than another?

My S fiddled with his test-taking strategy and his score dropped on the SSAT reading. We're hoping that he can fiddle with the strategy to get it back into place (which to do first, read the questions or read the excerpt--that sort of thing).

happy birthday Youdon'tsay!

since D has her scores I have been staying out of this thread, but I do sympathize with those who are still waiting. I have moved into anxious mode for upcoming SAT/ACT release dates.

zoosermom and others- I think you can still use last year's score in combo with this years to gauge visit choices. When they tell you you fall into a range, that really is the case. At least with SAT/ACT you have multiple changes to hit the top of the range.

zm: I would feel the same way as you do, and hope that I would be able to respect my D's choices the same way as you are doing.
