2008 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards!

1300+ words? Wouldn't that count as a short story then, not a short short story?

Maybe they'll just judge those as short stories?

do any of you have to re-submit? apparently for art you have to drop it off/send it to the scholastic building in ny- not film/video though. speaking of which, did anyone win for that category?

On the website, the original limit for short, short stories was 3000 words, but they changed it near the end of the submission deadline for RAL (after I, Marimare, and others had already submitted it).

"So do you any of you know what we (meaning writing Gold Key winners) are supposed to do now?"

RSVP to our region's awards ceremony, if there is one?

Oh, and be proud and happy? I think that's a valid thing to do in and of itself :]

I'm in RAL, so that doesn't apply for me. Too bad! :P

@southeasttitan: It was? I don't remember that. I actually barely managed to finish that one short short story before the submission deadline, so maybe I saw the word limit after they changed it.

When do the national awards get sent/emailed out?

for gold portoflio winners, it was supposed to be mid-march...but mid-march is passing and im getting sadder by the day :/

gold portfolio won't be announced until April, I hear.

Ergh - my mailing address is my school (boarding), and I'm home on break. Bah.

So now, all we can do is sit in suspense until April. (Hopefully it will be early April and not late April.)

Does anyone know if Silver Keys are given out separately?

^I believe they're included in the packet you receive with Gold Keys. That's how it was for me, anyway.

^really? but for what categories? it feels like everybody here only got gold keys, and so i thought silver and merit awards were given out separately..

I got silver for short short story, and I have friends who have gotten silver for poetry, short story, and personal essay.

The site says April,
The mail says third week in March.
Coordinators.

Bad Haiku aside, anyone know something about this discrepancy?

^ I noticed that too. Actually, the discrepancy existed between the two sheets of info they provided us. I figured perhaps Art was 3rd week in March, and Writing was April. shrug

Wow, these silver keys seem to be pretty rare.

I wouldn't stress over the dates. Last year it took forever to hear from them (late April) and everyone on CC was going crazy waiting. Just sit back and relax - there's no telling when they'll finally notify everyone.

question- are an equal number of national awards given to each category or are they allotted proportionally? no ones been talking about film here but it wont matter if its the latter

has anyone in RAL heard from art[drawing] yet?

I'm Region-At-Large (Long Island) and I just got a national gold award for art today in the mail in a large envelope... so I guess they've already come out. I don't know if they do silver awards separately or whatever. I didn't get any email, and I'm pretty sure that my teacher has no idea (as in they didn't send her an email either). Just an update for you guys.

it was large?? b/c i have a large envelope waiting at the post office, please dont get my hopes up....
