I applied to Human Ecology too. From Atlanta, Georgia.

I got waitlisted.
CALS primary, CAS alternate.
Sadly no "transfer option" for me.

I'm from Virginia, and I was a deferral from ED in CALS, and they gave me the transfer option too.. Eek, I was going around saying it was a GT, so I really hope it was, lol! Either way, I'm so glad I still have a chance...

I think its dumb that Cornell words the letter so negatively. They did it last year, too, so it's not just 2012. I read the letter, didn't even notice the part of the transfer, and told my mom I was rejected. It wasn't until I went back and read it that I realized there was a transfer option mentioned. Dumb.

^dtop, I did the same thing. I had to read it again

Yeah ditto!! My heart just about broke in half before my eye caught the "transfer" in the next paragraph.. I wonder how many others skipped over it and closed it before noticing the transfer option. They'll be in for a nice surprise when letters show up.. But honestly. Cornell really needs a lesson on the whole positive attitude..

Lol . .i read the thing again too.. and I told one person it was a GT transfer option too!! heres to hoping it is.. let us know when you find out

No one's said anything about having theirs worded with a "guaranteed" in front of the transfer option.. So I'd say it's looking good that it is a GT for all of us! Fingers crossed..

I'm from New England. I too was ED and deferred.(CAL/CAS) I showed a lot of interest... sent additional recs, spoke on the phone with the actual admissions who read my application ( told me "they really liked my app, but applied to a strong major") sent in additional new things I was working on etc... and each time told them Cornell is my # 1 choice. Which it still is.

I completely agree cindy, I think it's looking really, really good!

im sure its a GT...you guys are (understandably) stressing yourselves out. it will definitely be a GT. everyone who had letters like that last year got a GT...and all the ones I read about were 1 year GTs (not the whole 2 yr deal people are mentioning). good luck.

Thats comforting Elgguj, thanks :)

But while we're on the subject of 2 year GTs.. What exactly are those? I don't think I've ever heard of a 2 year GT before, but then again I never really knew much about GT's before I was (hopefully) hit with one today. Is it common to get a 2 year GT as opposed to a 1 year? Whats the purpose of a 2 year one?

I hope they did not change the program this year...i would go crazy if they decided to cancel GT or something (my stomach hurts just thinking about it)

Wow...I was deferred ED aswell. It seems as though they offer GT to many defferred ED kids. That makes sense.... :)

And, for the record, I from NYS aswell.

i got it too, for ILR. i think there may be a difference between "guaranteed transfer" and "transfer option" (below)

..

Uncle Ezra states GT "or" TO so it suggests that they are not the same.

Q: I have a quick question:
what is the difference between a GT (guaranteed transfer) offer and the TO (transfer option) offer? Thanks!
A: If you received a GT (guaranteed transfer) offer or the TO (transfer option), you should have received information about it from the college/school to which you were admitted and you should contact that school. The information in the letter is very important and I wouldn't want to try to explain without knowing the college/school or the situation. Every college within Cornell has different policies.

Dear Uncle Ezra - Questions for Tuesday, March 18, 2008 - Cornell University

..

Response (don't know about reliability of source) from someone on Yahoo Answers to the original poster (who asked what "transfer option" meant).

"I got this letter too. But most people who got this letter, in thiers it said, guaranteed transfer option. im not sure whats the difference from ours though."

...

hopefully i'm wrong, but i guess we can only wait and see the mail!

Sounds like shes basing her statement on last years letters. I don't know anyone whose letter said "guaranteed transfer" THIS year, and I'm sure at least one person on CC would have gotten it if they were doing that this year. I think it seems pretty obvious that they have reworded the letter from last year and took out the guaranteed. My guess why? It's not really guaranteed; you need a 3.0/3.3 GPA, and they don't want students led to believe that they will automatically be in after one year of college, despite performance. It actually makes sense...I hope.

^ thanks for your response, i sure hope you're right too :)

That does make sense dtop.. Ahhh I'm hoping its right too. If anyone of you guys gets your letter in the mail soon, please do post to alleviate the stress of the rest of us.. Unfortunately I'm in VA so I won't be getting it as soon as you ny residents will -.- Darn snail mail.

^ i'm in shanghai, china... haha so yeah i'd love to see anybody's official letter.

I'm pmming you guys what I know so far.
