I also only received one email with my NYU ID. I don’t really know if my application is alright, since they don’t even have an online system.
That’s bad, real bad, Michael Jackson!

Hey I was just wondering if someone in your family lets say your sibling is attending a school or college in NYU is it a big factor in the application decision? Will it help my chances of getting in to NYU?

hey just wondering my chances for stern…

CollegeGPA: 3.2 from Purdue Univeristy Kranner School of Managament, Junior (I know I would lose credits)
Expected semester GPA: 3.8-4.0
Expected Overall GPA end of Semester: 3.4

-Had to repeat several classes due to emotinal stage in my life last year.

Reasons: No finance major at Purdue!

Great Essays- My experience on growing up in a developing country and my insights on how to contribute to the global community through my goal and achievements.

Great recommendation letter from Business Stat Professor(U. Chicago Phd)—> - placed on top 5% of the course (170 total enrolled) Quantitative methods class and analytical problem solving

-Great recommendation letter of CEO from the largest egg processing plant in Central America I interned for two summers.

-Interned in a consulting firm in Central America this past summer. Directed project on expanding businesses strategies.
-Good EC in Purdue: DSP, Hispanic Business Student Association.

breti-I’m sorry to tell you but a 3.4 is not going to cut it for stern. Succesful transfers to stern usually has a 3.8 when they transfer in.

for stern… I would say probably not… but its a possibility with the extra credits you have. You should definitely apply though.

Nyu44- I understand that my gpa is low… although I explained the reasons why on my additional information essays (emotions drive your actions, we are all human). Still, I keep the faith since it is a HOLISTIC application process, I have international experience, and speak three languages. In the end every univerisity is pure marketing, they take a chance on the applicants on how well they will impact the community as a whole in the future. Yes, i am realistic and understand that succesful applicants have very strong academic profile, but hey my grades have only improved since my incident last year. AND i will continue my academic achievement from now on.

Patriot- yeah EC’s are good, and Purdue Krannert is a very intense school as well (math courses due to relation to engineering departments)… I sent in my mid term grades so I hope that’ll help.

Thanks both of you for analyzing my situtation, good luck on you acceptance!

Do you guys think the recession will give us a little boost? Considering NYU is an expensive school?

Breti-No, I actually heard transfer applications were up this year again.

@bluewolverine

In regards to having a sibling that goes to NYU, I read in the Fiske Guide to College that said something along the lines, if you’re older sister or brother goes to NYU, don’t expect to automatically get in.

hope that helps (:

nyu44

Where did you hear that the numbers went up this year?

breti, your GPA is too low for stern despite its holistic review. You might consider Gallatin instead and focus on finance concentration. Gallatin students can take any courses within NYU with few or no restrictions. Gallatin doesnt focus too much on GPA.

My cousin who attends and works in the admissions office told me it went up this year again.

I got only one confirmation email - the one with my ID number. After reading all of your posts, I got paranoid and called admissions. They said that they never received my college transcript! I don’t know how this is possible because I sent my transcript to three institutions at the same time, and the other two received them without problems. What should I do, should I send it again or hope that there’s some delay in processing?

Email the admissions office if you have a problem, but I would probably send it anyway. They are still receiving midterm grade reports from some of the students. I just sent mine in today.

How do midterm grade reports work?
Admissions e-mails you and asks you to send them in or…?
And I don’t understand how you can get an official grade in the middle of a semester?

"The deadline for transfer applications was April 1st and the reading process for transfer applicants begins in earnest during the month of April. Notification dates vary somewhat depending on the school or program, but at this time, we expect that transfer admission decisions will be mailed beginning in early- to mid-May. Some decisions may go out a little earlier; and many will go out later, especially if the Committee on Admissions determines that spring grades need to be included in our review.

“We always receive a significant amount of mail just prior to and just after application deadlines, and this year is no exception. It will be several weeks before we can get everything opened and filed away, which is another way of saying that it will be several weeks before we can tell you if your transfer application is complete or be in a position to tell you what is missing. Please be patient; we will let you know if we are missing necessary credentials as soon as we possibly are able to do so. If you do not hear from us, it means your application is complete.”

@nyu44

That sucks! I was praying for lower numbers this year.

um since when were we supposed to send in midterm grades? im taking finals right now and as it is most of my classes dont even have legit grades until the end of the class…

They only ask you personally if they want them, which means they’ve seen your app, they probs like what they see, but need more info to make sure they’re giving you the right decision

That’s what I’ve been hearing, too bad my gpa fell considerably this semester :/.

ohhh i see…for a second there i thought that was a requirement i didn’t read haha
