2010-2011 UA Airport Shuttle Schedule

<p>Despite the link currently saying 2009-2010, Housing has posted the dates and times for the 2010-2011 airport shuttle. I called and confirmed that this the correct shuttle schedule. Times are different from last year and as always, make sure to leave plenty of time between your flights and shuttle time. Per [Student</a> Affairs | Housing & Residential Communities](<a href=“http://housing.ua.edu/on_campus/shuttle.cfm]Student”>http://housing.ua.edu/on_campus/shuttle.cfm) the schedule is as follows:</p>

<p>The cost for the shuttle will be $30 one way and $60 round trip.</p>

<p>Reservations for the shuttle must be made through our office. We will accept credit card or check payment, no cash payments. Payment must be received in order to reserve a seat. Students requesting a reservation should come to the housing office to pick up an information sheet.</p>

<p>Fall Break
Wednesday, October 27th, departure times will be 1pm, 4pm
Thursday, October 28th, departure times will be 8am</p>

<p>Pick Up
Sunday, October 31st, pick up times will be 1pm, 4pm, 8pm</p>

<p>Thanksgiving Break
Tuesday, November 23rd, departure times will be 8am, 11am, 2pm
Wednesday, November 24th, departure times will be 8am, 11am</p>

<p>Pick Up
Sunday, November 28th, pick up times will be 1pm, 4pm, 8pm</p>

<p>Winter Break
Thursday, December 9th, departure times will be 8am, 11am, 2pm
Friday, December 10th, departure times will be 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm
Saturday, December 11th, departure time will be 9am</p>

<p>Pick Up
Monday, January 10th, pick up time will be 1pm, 4pm, 8pm
Tuesday, January 11th, pick up time will be 1pm, 4pm, 8pm</p>

Thursday, March 10th, departure times will be 2pm, 5pm
Friday, March 11th, departure times will be 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm</p>

<p>If these times don’t work for you, you can always arrange a private shuttle, take a taxi, or ride with a friend.</p>

<p>Thanks for the post, seatide. I know I can look this up, but this might be a good time to repost when kids have to vacate the dorms.</p>

<p>Since the Auburn game is the day after Thanksgiving, son may want to stay on campus, but don’t know if that’s possible over the Thanksgiving break.</p>

<p>We are hoping that son will only have to vacate the dorms for Christmas break, but I want to be sure on this.</p>

<p>With fall break, a lot of kids, especially those from out of state (like Sea_tide) will remain on campus, unless they live a few hours away. My son was the only one in his suite last year for most of the break. He got lots of sleep. </p>

<p>It is also nice that the shuttle will be offered for fall break. Last year, it originally was not.</p>

<p>The downer is with spring break. Some kids will be taking midterms right until the time they need to leave campus. Too bad the dorms do not remain open for a Saturday a.m. pickup.</p>

<p>Since the Auburn game is the day after Thanksgiving and airfares would be high anyway, I’m planning on staying at school over Thanksgiving. Hopefully the game will keep many people on campus that weekend because campus was way too quiet last Thanksgiving.</p>

<p>If your son wants to go to the Auburn Game and doesn’t mind missing Thanksgiving and/or Black Friday, coming home for Fall Break is a good option. If I can schedule it right, I’ll fly home then for a couple days. </p>

<p>With the earliest pickups being at 8AM and the shuttle arriving BHM at around 9:30AM, it will be pushing it to have a flight that leaves before 10:30AM.</p>

<p>What do you mean, dorms do not remain open for a Sat am pickup?</p>

<p>I’m hoping the dorms only close for Christmas and Summer break.</p>

<p>And I’m hoping also that the rooms do not have to be cleared of all belongs until May.</p>

<p>The dorms close for the duration of Spring Break. Nothing has to be cleared out until the end of finals, though.</p>

<p>Montegut: With Spring Break, the dorms close that Friday night around 6 p.m. It is a little inconvenient, however, for the kid who has a late exam or lab that day. That happened to one of my son’s friends. His chem lab ended at 5:45 so he can to sprint back to the dorm, get whatever he needed during break and leave all by 6 p.m.</p>

<p>Yes, the dorms close for Spring Break. Kids go home, go on trips, visit friends, etc during that time. No one wants to stay on campus.</p>

<p>^^^There is usually limited housing available in Rose Towers for students that need to stay over break. For the end of the year and possibly Winter Break, the dorms will close at 10AM on Saturday. Spring Break is a good time to start bring stuff back home, but otherwise you can leave everything besides valuables in your room.</p>

<p>Feeno, I have a goal of flying 25,000 miles in 2010 to get elite status. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for awhile now and now I have a reason to fly that much. :)</p>

<p>Maybe their parents want them to stay on campus. Hey, I’m looking forward to my empty nest! I don’t want him coming home two or three times a semester!</p>

<p>If he doesn’t want to come home for spring break, he can obviously go on vacation, or maybe a friends house. Also, there’s alternative spring break (they have that at Alabama, right?) and I’m sure church groups do missions during that time.</p>

<p>Many kids do not go “home” for spring break (or other long weekends). Many kids go off with friends to the mountains, the beach, or wherever. </p>

<p>During my son’s first spring break, he spent it with friends in Florida.</p>

<p>Alternative spring break is usually used to mean doing something like volunteering in another location or going on a mission trip. The Honors College tried doing a volunteer trip this past spring break to Louisiana, but it was canceled because not enough people signed up for it. For $300, it would have been a good opportunity, but I wanted to go home for the week. IIRC, kansasdemocat did an alternative spring break, so maybe he can provide us with some info.</p>

<p>I doubt any kids want to stay on campus for Spring Break. Tuscaloosa isn’t a Spring Break destination. It if were located in the mountains, by the beach, or some other “vacation-like spot” then Alabama would likely stay open because the kids would want to use their dorms as free hotels.</p>

<p>However, Alabama has likely “run the numbers” and has seen how few (if any) students want to stay on campus during Spring Break, so there’s no cost justification for keeping dorms open, dining halls open, etc.</p>

<p>But there surely will be places available for people who feasibly aren’t able to leave for the break.</p>

<p>I know that Rose Towers stays open for all breaks primarily because among many reasons, some of the international students are doing programs that operate under a different schedule. Housing does send out reminders that limited break-time housing is available in Rose Towers even if one is normally in another residence hall. Otherwise, one could always rent a hotel room in town.</p>
