whats the cutoff for a 4?

I took the BC exam today and left really worried because I ran out of time for most sections.

Out of 28 MC I left 4 blank but guessed on probably 4 others.
Out of 17 MC I left like 3 blank but guessed on maybe 4 others as well.

For the FRQs I’m guessing I scored (not in this order) a 9, 5, 4, 2, 6, 4 (but that’s a really rough estimate), and I definitely think I did better on the AB portion than BC. Obviously I wanted high scores but I’m not sure if I’d still be eligible for a 4 or 5. Any guesses of what one of my AP scores might be? I’d really appreciate outside perspective. Thanks!

Can ANYONE remind me what the free response questions were about in section A of the BC exam?? I know number 1 was about snow, another was about a zoo and entries, but what was the third???

joeyd973 wasn’t it the euler’s method one? dy/dx = 7 - y or something? Or was that calculator…?

It’s amazing how quickly you forget FRQ questions…um, in no clear order: one was about snow, another entries, a ride, volume/area problem, etc. and something about the first and second derivatives, having to find a tangent line. Anyways, as you can probably guess I bombed the FRQ. In my class we NEVER went over any problems that even come close to that difficulty. I went into the exam thinking I would get a 4, but now I’m just desperately hoping for a 3. What is the cut off for a 3? What MC score do you think would solidly place someone in that 3 range? The MC was ridiculously easy…but I still hope the FRQ difficultly makes it a generous curve this year.

30 is the cutoff for a 3 and a 46~ for a 4

so what exactly are the general curves?

@KingOfShadows: i remember a problem like dy/dx = 1 - y… im pretty sure that was section B of the free response tho

My Calc teacher forced everyone to buy the 2008 exam, which also provided a grade conversion chart.

Multiple Choice: (#Correct - #Wrong/4) * 1.2272 + a possible 54 points (9 per free response).

AP Grade (Score Range): 1 (0-20), 2 (21-33), 3 (34-47), 4 (48-64), 5 (65-108)

My personal opinion is that this test was more difficult than the 2008 test (especially the FRQs!), so I’m looking for a more lenient curve as well. Hope this information was helpful :P

@RachelZiggy: all of those seem familiar except when u said “a ride”… what was that??

I don’t care what the curve is I know I got a 100%. That just makes it harder for all the idiots who had to take the test because they didn’t do as well as I did. I just know I got a 100. All those idiots were complaining about the number six on the FRQ for the BC again… I destroyed it, I could’ve done that using 7th grade pre-algebra. I finished it the whole FRQ section with 35 minutes to spare. Some people are just so stupid, I can’t wait till I am the CEO of a company just so I can boss these idiots around. I know I got a 6 on the test that was so easy, if you didn’t get a perfect 6 on the exam then you are just flat out dumb

Oh, that was really helpful Imitation. Thanks!

@Junoon: hey man chill unfortunately not everybody was born a genius like you were.

No problem, I think that’s the typical grade ranges. If you look up the percentiles on collegeboard’s website, it appears that 55+% people receive 3 or higher on Calc AB…

edit: haha, my bad, 23%+ get 5s, still good odds :P

@Junoon: single funniest thing I’ve heard all day hahahahahaha hope u rlly did as well as u said u did man

@Imitation: is that grade conversion thing you posted for the AB or BC test?

It is for the AB test, sorry I didn’t clarify.

multiple choice was hardish and I got raped by the free response

@Imitation: Oh… so does that mean the BC curve is slightly more than that?
The reason i ask is cuz i tried to calculate my score using that guideline u posted and i barely got a 5 like between the 63-67 region every time i calculated a slightly different scenario so i guess if that was for AB then a 63-67 would mean a 5 for the BC right?

hey guys, thanks for all the replies. BUT BUT BUT
lets follow Collegeboards and CCs rules!!!

NOBODY WANTS TO GET THEIR SCORES CANCELLED.

ok just mention one word for each problem, not the concept. no area, tangent line,…etc. OKAY??

nothing special

small animal

a large pool ?

nothing special

something wit a lot of points. *dead giveaway if you TOOK the exam.

nothing special.

There, im international.

yes it was muchhhh harder than 2008.

VOTE:
curve of 60 would be grand. but thinking of curve of 62-63.

LOVE ALL OF YALL!
not taking calc bc next year,…!!!

Did someone already rush Junoon to the ER? I think all of his blood ran to his head to inflate it.
