2010 Freshman Orientation

I'm getting ready to sign up for 2010 freshman orientation, but I had a few questions first.

Should I stay on campus for orientation? I only live about 20 minutes away from UT but I would probably have more time to meet people if I spent the night there. Would I be missing anything big by not staying on campus for those three days?

Do business majors have to take any placement tests during orientation?

Lastly, what should I bring with me? I have read that I should bring a laptop that way I can register for classes as soon as the registration bar is lifted, and avoid waiting in line to register. Is this true?

Thanks for any information you can provide!!

You will not miss out anything by not living on campus. You can still participate in all the after hour activities. You just don’t have to deal with living with random kids who are not quite sure how to deal with college.

Having a laptop will helps with registration, but if you live close, you can do that from home.

If I remember correctly, during orientation, there are placement test that you can take, not sure if they are business specific. You can also take them after school starts.

The kids have fun staying up late on campus and socializing. If you are a social person, you will enjoy staying on campus during orientation. This is especially nice if there are not a lot of people from your high school class going to UT.

Definitely bring a laptop if you can.

I live in round Rock–would it be practical for me to stay at home and drive in every day? What time do things start/end in the morning and at night?

@squiggles2014:

I live in Round Rock and I commuted for orientation. I don’t remember being pressed for time to get there in the morning, so you should be fine. Just leave plenty of time for the commute (traffic can get really bad).
