Interview at BCM by e-mail today (1st choice Mol Vir).
Weekend: 2/12-13
International applicant.

brains: I think you are going to be fine! You have enough research experience to make up for your GREs which aren’t bad at all. I thought my GREs were decent until I started reading the stats of everyone on here but I have friends who got into a good grad school with GREs around 1000. You are in good shape!

I have my first interview via phone tomorrow. I’ve been sick to my stomach about it all day. This stuff is stressful, that’s all there is to it.

@neurophores

Is your phone interview with UT? If so – do you know who it’s with?

Hi txsoccer, I was going to message you but have been trying to prepare. It is with UT… Will PM you. Thanks! It looks like a terrific program. I just started in a new lab last week so I am doing the phone interview on my lunch break! Stressful.

Has anybody applied for any Pathology/Pathobiology programs? I haven’t heard back from any of them at all. Totally freaked out.

Congrats on your invitation RIO2016!

Will you be attending the interview weekend? If so, How about travel arrangements?

@MedicalScientist

Hey MedicalScientist, I see you got an interview from Harvard Immuno. Congrats! When did they contact you if I can ask? Looks like I may be out of luck on that one, oh well. I will probably see you at the Yale and UPenn weekends though!

It’s good that I have fellow future immunologists here! I am sorry that you have not heard from Harvard. I was contacted by Harvard around the middle of December and their interview weekend is between Jan 28th and Jan 31st. But look forward to seeing you at Yale and UPenn!

@Dengue
I’ll be in the US in February, so it’s going to be just as if I lived there, I mean, BCM will make all travel arrangements. I’m sooooooooo excited!! :)

This question goes out to ppl with interview experience already (I’m guessing this is mainly molliebatmit.)

MIT gives the option of staying with a grad student or staying in a shared hotel room with another prospective student. Any advice on which to take? I’d really like to stay with the grad student to get a better feel for the school and all, but I do want to sleep before my interview. Will the grad students who are hosting have a couch or an airmattress or something or will I be relegated to the floor? This may sound like a really weird question but I really am curious.

You will definitely not be relegated to the floor- you would sleep on a couch, an airmatress, or if you are really lucky an extra bed. It’s one way to get a feel for grad student life, but we all live in very different conditions, so I don’t think that you lose much if anything by staying at the hotel. But if you do want to stay with one of us, you will be able to get at least a bit of sleep

^I agree. ec, does MIT have “day hosts” for the students who stay in the hotel? This is what BBS does, so the students who are local or who choose to stay in the hotel still have a grad student contact.

I put my recruit on the pull-out couch in my spare room, but not everybody has a spare room. I think most people who volunteer to recruit in Boston will consider the kinds of space they have available – people who don’t have any extra space at all generally won’t volunteer. (I’m actually struggling with this right now – I don’t really want to host this year, but I feel like I should because I have a spare room!)

Thanks so much guys! I appreciate it! Based on your interviewing experiences, would you recommend staying with the grad students or in the hotel? This is what I’m leaning towards.

Thanks!

I have a question about Harvard BBS, for Mollie or anyone else. Do you know how many people apply to the program, and am I correct in thinking acceptances will be sent starting in mid Jan through early Feb? Also, who are the key faculty in the program, since it seems so huge?

Actually I have the same questions as pentaligin also…along with the interviewing hosts :p

I got interview invites from Stanford Biology (Cell/Mol), and Duke Genetics programs today.

Lexexee
Stanford invited me to interview with the Biology home program (instead of the genetics home program which was my first choice). The biology home program is part of the Biosciences program.

Now that the invites are out, I hope UCSF tetrad is quick about updates/rejections after the interview and doesn’t leave it up to us to check on the app website. For the summer program, mine said ‘under review’ halfway through the summer, while I was in the program!
