2010: Where the "cool kids" are headed . . .

So I just came across a thread that entailed a list of where all the valedictorians are headed this coming fall... and thought it would be fun to start a similar one with less emphasis on stats, and more on character.

In sum, what college did the well-rounded, intellectual-but-social, talented-but-modest, well-liked-but-not-egocentric (etc...) kids from your graduating class pick?

Maybe this will help everyone get a feel for the 2010 classes and student bodies at the different top schools. (granted—and thats a heavy emphasis on granted—we are only talking about a miniscule proportion of that class. but you know).

Who wants to kick us off???...

hm, the really cool kids...trying to think of some...well, one is going to the state school reluctantly, two are going to UVA (one on full scholarship), two are going to duke (one with partial scholarship)

umm UVA, 2 Emory, Michigan, 3 Columbia, Princeton, BC, JHU, Georgetown, Williams, Carleton, few to Cornell, probably more I can't think of.

Boston College
Duke
Georgetown
Lehigh
Miami
USC
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest

Texas-Austin. Almost unanimously.

here's some i know.

sampling of the good:
-artsy, guitar-playing girl who writes amazing poetry > oberlin
-witty, laidback, curly-haired boy whos naturally brilliant > princeton
-bubbly blonde who is very preppy, but well-liked > UNC-CH

sampling of the not-so-good:
-"in your face" politics fiend > duke
-the epitome of intellectual snob (nickname was ken jennings) > WUSTL
-major social creeper with major lack of social skills > cornell

Might help to mention what state your high school is in.

My high school is in Corpus Christi, TX

and i'm from michigan

Okay...the rundown of my school (in FL)

The cool smarter people >UF
The cool not-so "school" smart >FSU, UCF

As for individuals:
Crazy Liberal, loves everything about politics, extremly witty and hilarious >Tufts
Crazy Liberal, wears pajamas to school, very funny >Oberlin
One of the nicest, sweetest, caring people EVER >Duke
Football jock that loves science and engineering >GA Tech
Track star, very intelligent, very nice >UChicago

Everyone else is going to SFCC

ok let's see:

gorgeous, so friendly and smart but not 'too' smart - Grand Valley State
friendly, a little material/diva, not so bright - Ohio Wesleyan
type a, valedictorian, overachiever - harvard
artsy set designer girl - WUSTL (legacy, she wouldnt have gotten in otherwise)

a bunch of kids are going to michigan

a bunch of kids are going to MSU

there actually aren't that many cool kids in this year's gradating class.

The "coolest" kid in the graduating class is going to West Point. Everyone was shocked; we thought he'd go to some school in VA and join a frat (which is mostly what the cool kids from my school do). Guess he's not that kind of person.

Schools that lots of "cool" people seem to go to are UVA, UNC-CH, Georgetown, Middlebury, and Colgate

cool, well rounded, brilliant girls--> Dartmouth, Haverford

athletic and brilliant girl --> princeton

egocentric annoying dude(genius)--> johns hopkins

guys that are smart but still annoying--> UVA

the rest--> UMD-CP

i am classs of 2009... but here is where "cool" kids from my school are headed:

UT (tons!), carnegie mellon, columbia, harvard, oklahoma state, austin college, stanford

granted that some of them are very cool but also smart

we had seven valedictorians in my graduating class this year.

quiet, hardworking, no friends, biggest 'goody-goody' in class--rice
quiet, funny, brilliant, witty, respected, but not well known--princeton
outgoing, hip, bohemian, smart, guitar playing pothead--columbia
loud, 'i know more than you' (ken jennings stlye), hilarious (in a dry, elevated way), the smartest person i have ever met--princeton
hardworking, honest, cheesy, big cross country fanatic, goofy--UNC-CH
does anything to fit in, anxious, suck-up, pathological liar--georgetown
laid back, liked by all, very intelligent AND intellectual, quiet--Boston college

i am going to w&l.

this is fun. keep it going.

Cool kids from St. Louis go to either Central Missouri State or Missouri State, some of them that have a decent GPA go to Mizzou.

Mostly to UFlorida and UMiami then the lesser to Florida State and UCF.

university of michigan
