2011-2012 On Campus Roommates

Hey, I'm out-of-state so I don't currently know anyone who will be attending here. However, I've heard the horror stories about roommates from hell, and Im not sure I want to chance it. Has that happened to anyone?
Also, is there anyone else oos state that is looking for a roommate?

I’m in state but I am looking for a roomate. All of my friends are going to UCF and USF. :(

I’m out of state…the only other people I’ll know are girls so I’d appreciate a roommate who wasn’t crazy or anything haha.

^ lol yeah that’s the sad risk about having a roomate you’ve never met

Last year, I know a couple of people used a website called uroomsurf since it was fairly knew, but I’m not sure if it ever took off or if it just died.

I tried uroomsurf and it’s down :frowning:
Also, every other website like it has some startup fee which is just ridiculous.
Oh, I should probably include that I’m a girl.

^ so do you only want an out of state roommate and what were your hall preferences (in order or preference pls)?

I don’t specifically need an out-of-state roommate, I was just trying to find people in the same predicament as me lol. I just figured it would be awkward to have a roommate that already knows everyone I guess. My hall preferences are Degraff, Broward, Gilchrist and Wildwood. My priority number was 89, but I’ll lose it soon since I’m not sending in the deposit till January.

Try not to lose your housing priority #. If you are tight for money now, phone housing and give them a sob story and they might give you some time and hold your low # for a couple of weeks. Do your best to scrape the money together for the housing deposit. The housing deposit is really the only money you have to get in early, every other expense can be waived or deferred until school starts if you get a lot of financial aid, including admission deposit, housing, tuition, meal plan, books.

If you are tight for money, maybe consider going into one of the community style dorms instead to save $1000/year. I’d like a new red Corvette convertible, but I had to settle for a bicycle!

Wow 89 is a low priority number! Mine is 2381 and my deadline to pay the $225 was on the 19th. My agreement date was on December 9th, so your 10 calendar days might have already passed since you applied for housing before I did. Unless you have already called and explained your situation. You might want to take into consideration what tallalassie said and call housing.

Yeah… the odds of you getting whatever is the most popular (not the first choice, as many people seem to think) on your list are very slim if you wait until January. Some people got none of the 4 they mentioned, and others got some “temporary” housing crap where they changed the lounges into like 4 or 5 person bedrooms until other people left their rooms.

Well, I think she might get her atleast one of her hall preferences ( assuming that she chose hall preference over roommate) since her priority number is so great. But then again if she doesn’t pay the deposit until january her choices will be slim like you said Dnerd. Hopefully you work everything out so you don’t lose your amazing housing number and housing preference.

I like to be Alone, i dont want to be in those circumstances where we dont have any privacy to our private items/stuffs.

*84, sorry.
It seems logical that I’ve already lost it, but when I faxed the housing agreement last week (my parents weren’t home earlier to sign it), it still said 84. Maybe they don’t change it in the system, idk, I’m just hoping it means I still have it. Less great housing would be okay, but I really hate the idea of communal bathrooms and Salley has a pretty bad rep. Either way, I’ll survive.

As to the housing fee, its not that they dont have it, but my parents love pushing everything to last minute. But I will get it out of them, hopefully before the end of the month.

^ best advice I can give you girl is to call housing immediately when the reopen after christmas break and make sure you still have 84 . better to be sure than asse you have it still unknowingly. Again that is a really great priority number and I wouldn’t want you to lose it!

picking roomates is always a crapshoot. i’m rooming with my best friend and trust me it’s not the same anymore. we don’t really hang out anymore and neither of us really want to. at the same time, random roomates/suitemates become your best friend (for girls) and you think they’re perfect. these girls become so happy and think they couldn’t have been put with anyone better. it usually happens because you’re just so happy to be away from home and they’re the people that happen to be around. that only lasts a little while and then it dies too. i’ve seen this way too often. i tried to tell this one girl as fall started and just the other day she told me i was right. with guys its not that bad especially if both guys have their own group of friends. thats the key to keeping it fresh with your roomate. its not easy but thats the only way.

^ yeah your right! in some instances you won’t ever know until after you try the situation. And seeing that my roommate will be generated I probably will be roommates with someone I don’t know. I can only hope that we get along great and be polite to each other. Don’t have to be best friends. Thanks for the incite tho! :)
