2011 AP Physics C Post Test Discussion

OMG the mc was A LOT harder for me!!! I guessed BLINDLY for like 10 questions! It was the hardest MC i’ve done. (I’m so stupid lol)

The FR wasn’t as bad though…the level of difficulty was what I expected, and I BSed a lot of stuff ><

I got killed by Mech, E&M was expected questions so rather easy. But I am disappointed because the Mech test is horribly written does anyone else notice how many rotational problems that are on there? they make up like the most part of the test its ridiculous

I really hope all the answers for mech is mostly B’s because I was on #27 when they called time but 10 minutes before I bubbled everything as B’s…
and I bubbled d’s for e&m XD

Here are my thoughts:

mechanics mc: didn’t pace myself correctly so i ended up with 4 questions blank but it wasn’t that bad
mechanics FRQ: it was pretty good, sans the last two parts of the first FRQ since i didnt know how to do them lol

EM mc: pretty easy cuz i finished it a lot quicker than mechanics and i am more sure of my answers
EM FRQ: much much easier than i expected, didnt finish last part of 1st FRQ but overall the FRQ were actually pretty easy. :)

I’m surprised by E&M. I feel like I did better on E&M than on Mechanics since I managed to finish all of the multiple choice (with a few guesses) and all of the E&M FRQ except the last part of FRQ #1. I was actually more nervous about exam E&M since I haven’t done as well as I liked on my 2nd semester tests and the FRQ’s from previous tests were very very difficult (got an E on my capacitors test, C on Gauss’ Law test, B’s on DC Circuits & Magnetism, and A on Electromagnetic Induction in 2nd semester; but I consistently got A’s and B’s on all of my tests in Mechanics semester)

Mech: Did pretty well on MC and FR. Didn’t solve 1e, 1f.
E&M: Got completely owned on MC. BSed half of the LC circuit problem, and did OK on the rest of the FR.

I’m expecting a low-middle 5 on Mechanics and a low 5/high 4 on E&M. Not bad for cramming E&M in a few weeks. (I self-studied both.)

We only do Mechanics in the AP Physics C class at my school.

The MC was pretty easy, but I forgot to manage my time and ended up bubbling D for the last 8 questions. Oops. I’m pretty confident on the ones I actually did, though.

The FRQ. Holy f—. No idea what I was doing. At least I can calculate slope, haha! There was a ridiculous amount of calculus, and I didn’t really know what differential equations were, so… Hopefully I can get some major partial credit.

I sincerely hope the curve is really lenient. That calculus was just crazy.

Just got back from school :P

Mech MC: What the goddamn ****?
Mech FR: 1a-d was OK, e-f I couldn’t quite piece it together. 2 and 3 weren’t bad. I actually did 3 using small angle approximation and crap until I noticed that CB gave us a really nice hint in the directions.
E&M MC: Expected difficulty
E&M FR: Seriously? Is that it? Our teacher never taught us Ampere’s Law or inductors, but all you really needed for #2 was the formula sheet/conservation of energy and all you needed for #3 was to apply the idea of Gauss’ Law to a current-carrying wire.

Ampere’s law tripped me up until I remembered that l is the circumference of the cylinder at a certain radius.

Overall mech was solid. I thought all of FRQ 1 was pretty chill, FRQ 2 was pretty good minus the graph, and FRQ 3 was also not bad. I wasn’t really expecting the format to be so focussed on making equations though.

BTW it would be hilarious if someone reported all of us.

At least we aren’t discussing answers :P

What made #3 really easy was when they told us to make an equation analogous to the period of a mass-spring system. Then everything else kinda fell into place. The differential wasn’t too bad, you just had to remember the relationship between angular displacement and angular acceleration.

Definitely not what I did…but I think I got the answer anyway.

I like to get wined and dined before i get ****ed… that mechanics test was a beyotch.
anyone else draw pictures and doodles as answers for the FR?

hardest test i’ve seen… test will probably be curved low

I agree with Raddker at least they could have put lipstick on it beforehand i was murdered

Mechanics MC was pretty challenging. Not brutal, but definitely one of the harder ones I’ve come across. A lot of time pressure too, I felt like.
Mechanics FRQ, holy **** that was brutal. The first two had me stumped, but the last one I’m pretty sure I did really well on. Hopefully this can all balance out.

E&M MC was moderately difficult, but I’m awful at E&M. I finished on time and feel about the same confidence wise as I do about Mech (which is good for me because I’m a hell of a lot better at Mech)
E&M FRQ was pretty good. The first one was easy, the second one I didn’t really study RC/LC circuits much but hopefully I BSed my way through. Third one I’m really bad at magnetism but I think I had some good assumptions and can get some credit here and there.

The multiple choice for both parts was pretty easy, finished with time to go over everything.

The Mechanics FRQ was pretty hard, I think every problem had a part or two that needed some real calculus instead of the usual plug into equation.

The E&M FRQ was ok. There was a circuit on there my teacher said they would never ask, lol. It wasn’t that bad, surprisingly.

I only think #2 needed calculus (for the obvious part). #1 didn’t need any, and #3 only needed you to know how to write a double-derivative.

I’m glad to see others struggled with the mech FRQs. I know my whole testing room with the exception of one girl came out of the room feeling violated in the worst way possible.

Is this one girl a slut or a physics genius?

I only took Mechanics.
Surprisingly MC was rather easy. I was pressed for time though (bad things happen when I’m pressed for time, though I did answer every question), and something tells me I have a false sense of security and made a ****load of mistakes.

…FRQ, more than half of the stuff I put in there was absolute BS, and I have no faith in what I did put in more confidently. I highly doubt I’m getting a 5 now.

One of my friends said after the FRQ: “Well, I thought I knew physics…”
My response to this: “…That was physics? Goddammit.”
