I am new to all this, how do you know American went to their wait list at this point? I have a daughter WL at American and it is definitly her first choice. Thanks!

@DeeDee: First check the school’s thread on CC and see if they have their own WL thread, then check here. Don’t forget, this is parent’s forum, so not everyone finds it easily. If you do check up on other threads, please also leave them a message to post here if they get off the WL. I have worked in College Campus housing in 2 countries for the past 10 years, so I try to keep track of a lot of schools and have been actively posting as I have a D and many of her friends going to college this year. But not everyone checks. Housing people can tell a lot too, because they often know how full things are for admissions, and where sorority/fraternity/off campus housing is being utilized. I am a big believer in “accept your chosen school” - but the reality is there is a lot of money and time involved in planning housing and other arrangements that happens from WL, so I am also very big on trying to give future students a heads up and as much time as possible to plan. Good luck!

same questions as richardsrun. any confirmation of Colgate? Mich?

What can anyone tell me about Connecticut College? What is their process. I’m on the
waitlist and can’t even check my application status online anymore.

has anybody heard anything from gwu yet? someone a few pages said they know somebody got a call during the middle of last week. admin office said they are going to notify waitlisted applicants in the first two weeks of may and its already the start of week 2. if i havent been called yet does it mean i should expect rejection. i have expressed interest in them several times (its my first choice) and i just sent some app updates but im afraid it didnt reach them in time. really worrying right now…

Dandemom- did your S or D get off Williams WL? Is there a post elsewhere? My S is on WL so very interested as to when the call(s) came in. Thanks!

@Dandemom: Could you give us more information about Williams? Thanks.

I called up some of the schools that I am on the waiting list for today, and I thought that I would post what little I was able to learn:

Cornell (CAS): Won’t know for a week or two whether they’re using the waiting list.

Vassar: Just finished receiving decisions from accepted students Friday. Won’t know for a week or two whether they’re using the waiting list.

Wesleyan: The class of 2015 is looking pretty full at the moment. If they go to their waiting list at all within the next week, they won’t be taking many people.

My daughter is on a number of waitlists. Is there anything improper of accepting off the waitilist at one school while still remaining on the waitlist at her top school (assuming this is the order it may go)? In short, is there any type of implicit agreement that accepting a position off the waiting list means you will withdraw from the waiting lists at all other schools?

random793: don’t know what to tell you; daughter’s very close friend was already deposted to Northeastern; got the call last week for GWU and is attending…no idea if there was a special situation, special program etc…all I know is that he is attending…

Bike17 – D was in the same boat – WL at 4 schools; wanted to be on WL for 3 of them.
Of the 3, she had a #1 choice, and fortunately, she got off that WL first. She has decided not to remain on the other 2 school’s WL.

But to answer your question (and I ran this by D’s GC also) – there is nothing that says you cannot remain on multiple WLs. The only financial issue is that often the WL school asks for an answer (i.e., deposit) right away, so you may be laying out a deposit that you will then forfeit if another WL school comes through.

Good luck!

You can leave your deposit on the table at a school where you were accepted before May 1, but the waitlist Yes is binding and singular.
Once you say YES to a waitlist (and my understanding is that they give you 24 hours or so), you say no to all other waitlists as a condition of that acceptance.

^^Ha! Bike17 – now are you totally confused?

@mustangmom, i don’t think you are correct. I know of 2 situations (from last year & the year before) where they deposited at School A for the May 1 deadline, then accepted first waitlist offer, and when the next came in, accepted that…letting each earlier school know of the change of plans along the way. Not sure if it’s technically “allowed” but it’s certainly done.

Hope this clarifies the Wake confusion. As per Ad. Counselor they took about 10 students off wl before 5/1 and now their class is full. They will not be calling anyone else at this time.

Lafayette is not going to their waitlist this year.

know several kids who have Accepted a school by May 1st. Then got off one waitlist at one school, then the next waitlist at another school. You just lose the deposit.

^not to create false hope, but I know of one prospective Lafayette student who put down a deposit but will not be attending…
