2011 January SAT: Math

Silenex - It wasn’t the perimeter and the side, just the side alone. Which means it’s an equilateral triangle, so x=(1/3)P

P+x doesn’t equal a+b/2, x = a+b/2 so there is your problem from the start

I found that when questions arent specific about the integers being different or whatever, it’s just best to make everything the same.

And I easily figured that one side of an equilateral triangle is 1/3 the perimeter.

I must be ■■■■■■■■. I somehow interpreted it as P + x = (y+z)/2.

I remember double checking too, I thought it said “P and x equal to the arithmetic mean of the other two sides”. It probably said “A triangle with P and x equal to the arithmetic mean…”.

I realize that mathematically my interpretation makes no sense whatsoever, but shouldn’t there have been a comma in the wording of th question?

I still got it right anyway, :P

SILENEX
do u remember the 1/3 free response one?
businessgrl wbu?
for my sanity…

@JustAKicker, nope, sorry. I’m trying to remember what it was too…

■■■■■ @alwaysgraceful !

if we end up being wrong about the radio one, i’ll actually spam those guys -.-
well imma forget about this sat, everything i see on these threads only prove that im wrong, and that my chances for a 2300 become more and more slim every second ):
LMAO,

I really would love to see the corrections to the test, i’ll have a good laugh

Yeah, can someone please tell me what the question on the free response that had an answer of 1/3???

what question are you guys talking about with the P?
is it the one where one side is the average of the other two sides and stuff?
if so, can someone tell me what the question was asking and why i got 9 as the answer?

The question said: If x is the average of the other two sides of a triangle, and the perimeter of the triangle is P, then what is x in terms of P.

the 1/3 free response one was about -x+ 2y = 3 or and 2x-3y= 7 or something like that and it asked you to add x and y.

i think?

this is freakin’ unbelievable
why can’t anyone remember it???

@big

I think it was the equation of a line of the form y = ax + b. I think the equation was “y = -2/3x + 1” and you were supposed to find a + b.

That ring’s a bell terebin…yes, I think you are correct.

oh no! i’m thinking of a different one…carpdime is right.it was a + b.

Yeah carpdime is right. No one remembers it because it was so easy. Usually the more controversial/difficult questions are the ones that are remembered.

thank u!!!
(got it right)
one wrong stupid hexagon i was making the pattern and did doubled (1-6-12, only the 6 to 12 registered)
chances of an 800?

so can anyone tell me for sure which Math section was the experimental one?

Ah, yes. That was it.

i think it was the one where you had to multiply1/3 X 2/4 X 3/5 or something like that…
