Hey guys, I am applying to Rice ED.(Nov 1st is coming, yay)

I open this thread to share questions or information among Rice ED applicants!

Sooo, here is the first question;
What is the chance of getting into Rice under RD plan If I get deffered?
I don't see why Rice would choose someone to whom it already said no. Also, RD has much more applicatnts along with a lowever acceptance rate..

[deleted b/c i misread your post]

Umm for the deferred chance. Possibly hgiher because they know that you’re committed? IDK, ask Rice admin ppl.

Edit: Do you know how receptive the readers are towards humor? all of my responses have some humor sometimes silly and other times witty. i.e. i write about how i desire to place a giant, red button with the sign “Do not push, seriously” in my waiting lobby and, if pushed, toilet paper and a note “i told you so” rain down on the pusher.

When they defer you, that doesn’t mean no. It means that you aren’t a definite yes or no. They will reevaluate your application with the rest of the apps in the RD round.

ED tends to have very competitive applicants. You may not be top of that group but may fit in with the RD crowd

@Antarius - thanks for the answer! For RD, do I send new application? If not, can I change essays I already turned in, for instance?

Do you know by any chance the approximate percentage of the deferred applicants who were accepted in RD?

I do not know the answer to what % are accepted. This is very dependent on the strength of the pool etc.

You do not need to send in a new application. You can, however, send in supplemental material that enhances your application. Example would include another recommendation letter, updated GPA/Test scores etc.

You may be able to change your essay, I would email admi@rice.edu to confirm that though
