2011 RSI Discussion

@pinkumbrella10: On the application, it says that the general research fields have to be distinct. And my pages turned out to be 3 full pages of the smallest margins, size 11 font, and in times new roman.

Also general question: I’m not going to send in my SAT scores since I haven’t taken one since the 7th grade, but I am taking it this January. If I score really well on this SAT, can I email RSI about these new scores?

really? we can do 11 font?

Does anyone know what the study of chromosomes would be called?

does the application have to be sent by the 14th or does it have to arrive at the RSI place by the 14th?

and do i ahve to send PSAT scores? lol… i just wont have any scores for PSATs or SATs

yeah i think you must for psats
i think sent by 14th

would biomedical, biophysics, and biochemical count as three diff fields??

@LovexLight: On the application, under Dates to Remember, it states, “January 14, 2011: Application deadline for receipt at the CEE office. This is NOT the postmarked date.”

oh my bbbbb

can i do size 10 font?

You can even do size 8 font.

study of chromosomes would be genetics? i think… or genomics?

im doing size 11, i can barely read size 10 … so i don’t think the readers at CEE can either. i have like no margins on my pages though.

i think biomedical would be under bio, biophysics can be under bio or physics, and biochemistry can be under bio or chem, but i don’t think those 3 would stand as a main research field, unless you have a more specific subfield within these three fields.

i’m mailing either on tuesday or wednesday… probably by UPS, which means expensive shipping… but oh well. i don’t trust USPS anymore, they lost one of my teacher recs before =</p>

you can fudge with margins too?

@nspiredone
duh

and i’m trying to apply but i feel very um…despondent giving the program’s stats.
I did a Howard Hughes summer internship program this summer and did work on ecology…which isn’t really what i’m interested in at all, so I don’t want to talk about it on my app. I would like to pursue some sort of biochemistry more related to humans OR astronomy/physics. The only official test scores I have are PSAT (math: 80, verbal: 73, writing: 67). By this summer I will have taken AP Chem, AP Environmental, AP Bio, B/C Calc, and AP Stat but don’t really have any programming experience except super rudimentary C++. The only real modelling I’ve done was at a local fashion show :frowning: - in terms of extracurriculars i don’t do any sort of science competitions really but I am in a community service team and made it to states in track… I got a B in AP Chem last year so I kind of would like to let them know I got a five on the AP Exam, but there’s no slot for that…

OPINIONS? ADVICE?

WHAT do they mean when they ask for unofficial score reports?

B in chem? i mean they do get your transcript (unofficial or official) so there’s no escaping that DX
idk, i’m sending in my photocopied PSATs, is everyone doing that with whatever scores?

@ acceptees
i also read that last minute mailing could get lost. Did any of you apply as such?
what if we send it but they don’t get it???
Can we send two copies?

do they need AP scores? cuz i don’t see anythign about it.

Thanks, buzzer ^__^

But I have more questions D:

Uh…Do activities non-school related matter at all? 'Cause I know colleges do want to see that their applicants have lives out of school, but I don’t know if that’s the case with RSI O__O For example, music, sports, etc.?

didn’t you write that in question 6??
