@FrasirFir: we have the same issue!! i think i’m just going to leave mine, disease and molecules are diff enough

@tsubomi1993: my worst nightmare now is my package not getting to CEE after sending my whole friday home writting it
is it true the closer to the deadline to send it, the more likely its to be lost?

For those who are finished with the essays, how many words in total did you write?

I’ve already sent in my app, but I stapled my 3-page transcript together though…I really hope that won’t turn into a serious setback for me @.@

@eobaggs: 2000ish words…is that too little? What about you?

@roseyrox: I’ve got around 2,200 words right now and am finishing up just the last bit of a question.

Sheesh, and to think each TASP essay allows up to 1,500 words. o.O

I didn’t staple my application, which is why I think I got in with mediocre specs.

@tsubomi:
Of course, I highly doubt my chances, but that plan is on!
I think I have more motivation to try harder for RSI now that there’s bibimbap on the line. P:
I ran out of ink for my printer and so now all my papers are red instead of blue. haha oops. ):

Geez, I can’t think of a second field/subfield!

I love LEGOs, but would Engineering/Civil Engineering be an acceptable pair?

@buzzer: Stop joking about mediocre specs when it’s superior to most of the high schoolers in the nation.

@PantherTrax: My teacher has been teaching this class for around 5 years now to high schoolers, and we definitely learn abstract algebra before we just delve into categories. We went into algebraic groups, rings, fields, as well as learning algebraic topology. It’s definitely been a new experience for me, seeing how it’s a complete new mathematical field compared to just calculation math (i.e. Calculus). We also learned set theory and went over Russel’s paradox. I’ll definitely be putting this on as one my research topics. :3

@buzzer: sarcasm ;p

@NotSoProdigious: Algebraic topology in high school? That’s actually pretty awesome…you seem like one of the better candidates for the program that I’ve seen on CC and in real life.
Good luck everyone!

Thank you, but trust me, it’s not nearly as in-depth as a university course on it would be. I’ve learned enough to understand the more complicated mathematical research done in the field, but no where am I experienced enough to go developing my own area such as “voting theory.” I want this with my life, and I’m going to truly hope my essays display my heart and passion on the subject, but chances are slim. I’ll look at it optimistically and come out of it with a smile, even if I don’t get in. Wish me luck. :)

Honestly I doubt that they have a good reason for “dont staple this.” I’m pretty sure they don’t care too much about make sure it’s an official copy of sat or psat or school transcript. They seem pretty lenient imo.

anyone know for a fact that they read all the essays? my psat sucks that it could get trashed immediately, my bio SATII is good though…

i’m worried about my two fields i really don’t have enough background to do much besides biology… i’ve taken ap chemistry but I feel like in general chemistry research is a lot more complicated than biology and even though i don’t have much programming skills i’ve taken a short course at jackson laboratory that used a lot of compbio and i’m using mit’s open courseware on a compbio class and the PROFESSOR is the one i would like to work with and he’s technically listed at computer science. i’ve always loved what i’ve learnt of astronomy/physics but I haven’t taken any astronomy/physics classes so i don’t have the background to apply for that.

so
computerscience/compbio
bio/regenerative

maybe i could emphasize in my essay wet/dry lab?

yeah um were we supposed to DIRECTLY address problems in each field? my 2 problems were blended into both… I talked about molecular stuff that relates to both disease and molecular engineering
is that okay? pleasseeee reply!
i have good stats, just NO experience with research
Mine’s 2400 word-ish

@FrasirFir: i;m doing the same thing, categorizing the same thing into two fields
bio: molecular Pathology (is two 'molecular’s too similar?)
chem: molecular engineering (is this medecine making?)

Gah. The more I look at it, the more interesting astrophysics looks. But given that I have much more background in math, should I put math or astrophysics as my primary choice? The “interesting question” essay will probably have a more enthusiastic tone for the astrophysics part, but my EC-like things are all either math or general physics (aka not astrophysics).

Astrophysics <3 do it.

help tsubomi1993 us!!!
