making medicine is like pharmaceuticals…

is that a subfield? what is molecular eng then?
btw that was supposed to say help us* lololol

I kind of question why you’re putting down molecular engineering if you don’t know what it is…I suggest taking the initiative to research about it, otherwise it would be hard to sound ‘passionate’ and ‘genuine’ in your essay.

Or just choose a topic you really know. I doubt RSI is that picky.

i mean i know what i’m passionate about: medecine for new diseases and researching on a molecular level, i just dont know what field/subfield its called

^Researching what on a molecular level? Diseases/medicine…?

So I changed my first choice to astrophysics. It would be nice to get involved in something interesting that I haven’t really done much of. Thanks for the advice, tsubomi! :)

(Not that I’m optimistic about getting in…)

Hi Tsubomi, I miss you! How have you been? :)

mine’s 2806 words…is it too long ?! wahh

oh and for the last question for the essays, i actually found out about rsi through tasp… would it hurt my chances at all if i mentioned tasp?

all these people with really long essays…is 1805 too short?

i just got a likely letter…does this mean i am in?

@energize, i would put astrophysics if i were you.

i have 3,500 words woohooo! yay for not being concise! well i fit them all in three pages with 0.3 in margins and 11 font times new roman.

To the person who chose astrophysics–you’re really cool. Almost as cool as astrophysics.

And re: the likely letter…I honestly have no idea if that means you’re getting in. I would be inclined to say it means that you’re likely to get in, that the CEE has in some way found out about you, and that they’d be strongly inclined to give your application their full attention. However, at a program as competitive as RSI, I highly doubt that a likely letter is a guarantee.

Ah sorry I didn’t answer any questions last night…lots of term papers to finish :/

The stapling just helps because the CEE scans all the materials they receive and stores them online until consideration. With the massive influx of applications, it would be ideal to limit your package to one big wonderful envelope mailed at one time, all unstapled and ready to be scanned.

@NspiredOne: Yes, they will read your essays. You won’t be trashed immediately based on PSAT score.

@FrasirFir: Well, I would personally tell you to do astrophysics
I think if you clearly distinguish between the two fields in your essays then stick to what you’re comfortable with…

@pinkumbrella10: Honestly, I do math and physics so I’m probably not the best to ask about the fine dividing lines between biology related fields. I discussed two problems, but like I told FrasirFir - stick to what you’re comfortable with and distinguish the two fields in your essays. That’s probably the best advice I can give you because I don’t really know the details of your essays
Not everyone at RSI had research experience, but we all had scientific involvement, even in various forms.

@energize: YES OMG PHYSICS IS THE BEST GROUP AT RSI.

@GoBrussels: Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

@LovexLight: Mine was 3,086 words…you’ve probably heard this a lot, but make every word count. The CEE has a lot to read Make sure every sentence you’re giving them has a purpose.

@aquotidianlife: You got a likely letter to RSI but were accepted into Georgetown Class of 2015 Early? That’s a first ;)

hahahah likely letter to RSI…

There’s no “key” to getting into RSI, but on the flip side of that coin, there’s nothing that immediately disqualifies you either, including PSAT scores. (Besides the obvious…)

And about the stapling: although I was being sarcastic in my last stapling post, there’s really no reason to not follow directions. just make sure you know them!

Just to make sure you all saw–the RSI application has been extended to Jan. 21st due to the difficult weather in the US. Take some deep breaths.

[Updates about RSI Application deadline extension | Center for Excellence in Education](http://www.cee.org/news/2011/01/10/updates-about-rsi-application-deadline-extension)

^ The soft side of RSI. To show you, they are really nice, caring people.

YAYYYYYY
so much!

can we have more than two recommendations?

you got a likely letter already??? i didn’t even mail mine yet!! what did it say?

YAY!! I have so much to do this week and I haven’t started the RSI application so that made my day!

Saying that, will they look down on it if I submit mine overnight or 2-day mail on the 21st even though I live in the one place with no major storms? In my state we only have mass shootings…
