2011 RSI Discussion

Yeah, at least it feels like a weight is off of my back, although I still have a 20 page research paper to write in APUSH within the next two days :frowning:
Congratulations to everybody who got in, but for us rejectees at least we have some future opportunities to look forward to, as well as college applications.

If this was the case - then how come no one got accepted so far?

I was thinking the same thing, but one must remember the low percentage of people who are accepted. The odds for CC users are probably somewhat higher, but it’s not impossible that the number who have been rejected is just random.

This is ********.

But then again you have to consider all of the networking that individual applicants have with other applicants. There is bound to be someone that knows someone who got accepted or something along those lines.

Unless, of course, CEE didn’t send out any acceptance letters yet.

I know pretty brilliant people with staggering awards (ISEF 1st, etc.) that didn’t get accepted. Weird.

Just out of curiosity
how many people are waitlisted?

Sighh
rejected from NC by email too. It does seem like all the emails have so far been sent from the same time frame
I got mine at 2:25 pm.

Well, I actually don’t feel crushed since my expectations weren’t high to being with! :)

@algebra
I have so much time because I am on spring break, almost all of my friends are out of town, and I finished my book.

I checked last year’s thread and found this
“So, here’s some different kinda stats:
From this CC thread:
Accepted:8 (+ 4 friends or frens of friends)= 12
Rejected: 18
Total: 30
Still waiting 15? including me!” -StressedoutNOT

i think last count we had 9 rejected and around 7 who had not heard

@ sMITten
stalking last year’s thread i found someone who thought it was 15

haven’t heard yet
what is this

I think there are a lot more than 16 on here that have applied
but yeah, I haven’t counted who all has indicated their status.

Thanks for the info on waitlist.

Tomorrow is a new day.

rejected from NC at 2:25 pm
OH WELL
hopefully somewhere else

@ender: you can add me to the rejection list, first rejection and frankly it sucks, lol hopefully my college run next year will go better. good luck to everybody whether they make or not, i can see we got some crazy smart people my year in this thread and i’m sure you’ll all go places :)

I saw the email just now and immediately came to CC.

Rejected. 2:25 pm. Ohio. Last name starts with K.

Do they mean “The competition for the available places was extremely intense with many more qualified applicants than we could accept” as cursory (i.e. it happens every year) or were there actually significantly many more people this year who applied?
Ah well, that is the end of that era I suppose.
I still have Canada/USA Mathcamp and SSP (if I get in) to fall back on.

^the letter was (nearly) identical last year. I don’t doubt though that this year probably had a record number of applicants.

maybe they’re sending out the emails/mails by the order we sent our applications in
i didn’t get notified of anything yet and i sent mine the night before the deadline so maybe that plays a role?

@sMITten: I think that there is an overall trend in students being more competitive and taking charge of their own education and learning (probably because the ever-growing usage of the Internet, especially at earlier ages, facilitates this phenomena).

For example, Mathcamp’s acceptance email last year said that there were a record number of qualified applicants that year.

It would make sense that the same case is with RSI.

Rejection over here :(

@veezbo
I thikn a lot of it has to do with the economy as well. Also yes, competition
college acceptances are more and more difficult and so getting any edge (especially when the program is free) is going to lead to more applications.

@LovexLight,

Dunno 'bout that. I sent mine 1.5 weeks before the due date overnight express. I have not heard re: my status. :(
