2011 RSI Discussion

I’m still (very anxiously) waiting, sorry about the confusion.

I kinda like the switch to email this year since it’s faster, but it’s a bit of a pain refreshing an inbox hundreds of times instead of checking the mailbox once :P

hey guys here are the stats to past RSI participants if you want them :]

they made me feel like ****… so look at them at ur own risk ._.

[AAPT U.S. Physics Team - meet the team](AAPT U.S. Physics Team - meet the team)

on the bright side, it’s now march 16th!

Hey Everyone,

I’m from FL, last name beginning with M… I was rejected today, 3/15, via an e-mail sent out at 2:23 p.m. I was pretty upset… (haha, I guess you can say I should “beware the Ides of March…”) but congrats to those who got in!

For all the other people who were rejected, do you have any other plans regarding summer research opportunities / know of any other good summer programs? If so, where are you applying? I’m looking for internships (preferably free or paid) in biology/biomedical research.

Thank you all so much, and good luck to everyone who still hasn’t been notified yet!

got my email

you got the acceptance @ 2pm yesterday?

rejected, oh well.

@ dannynobel
I dont think those students all went to rsi. I didnt see any with stats that said they went at least.

@tishk
congrats. Would you mind elaborating on when you got it and what it said?

Look what I found! haha!

@ender

oh here are the specific students it says RSI under experience:

I am sure the are others I missed but those are the ones i found.

If you want Physics team members…

[Meet the Team - 2010 US Physics Team - AAPT.org](Meet the Team - 2010 US Physics Team - AAPT.org)

[2008 Physics Olympics](<a href=“Error Occurred While Processing Request”>Error Occurred While Processing Request)

etc etc etc. Oh and there’s a bunch of RSI '10ers who did physics too.

@paronomasia: Hahaha, that is really funny. :slight_smile: Made me laugh, even after today.

Zephyreveryoneatrsi Polling System is probably the best part of the paper… [/nostalgia]

But to everyone not accepted, obviously don’t take it as a rejection of you in any way, they literally do not have enough room for all qualified applicants. Especially from bigger states, you could be SOL just because there’s some insane genius in your county.

CEE on the whole does a great job, but if you are looking for a place to blame, they can make interesting decisions - they’re only human after all. Except Amy.

Just relax and finish out your junior year and do whatever you want to do this summer - being a senior is a breeze.

Well, nobody has (credibly) received an acceptance yet from RSI on any of the networking sites I lurk on or here or whom I know personally or know of. I guess today may be the day the rest of us get word.

I was a little surprised that decisions were sent via e-mail…would have thought snail mail as in past years. So whatever happens today won’t surprise me. Awesome people (really awesome, over-qualified and highly accomplished kids) got rejections yesterday, so my self-esteem will remain intact no matter what decision is rendered. Am preparing for my rejection. There are still a few summer research opportunities whose deadlines have not yet passed.

::crosses fingers anyway::

Guess I should be checking my email around 2:30 today… Survived the first wave of slaughter :]. RSI or hanging with my friends the summer before my senior year? I’ll be happy no matter what.

I found out that 900 applications were received. So it does nt sound like the competition was very intense.

Well, cutting 900 down to 50 is still a pretty drastic cut :stuck_out_tongue: but atleast it’s 5ish% acceptance, not 2 or 3 as others have estimated

3000 to 50 is 1.6% - so 5% is like chances at Harvard this year at 35000 applications for 1600 positions.

No mail in my mail box or email today… so far.

Hi texaspg, Where/how did you get that information about 900? Did RSI release that figure? Thanks!

Still waiting for my rejection e-mail…
