It was an email response back from Maiti about how many people applied.

ahoy… (Maiti) … spelled Maite… I just thought it was funny.
900 is significantly less I think, than usual.

ahoy! 2:37, and no email yet.
900 applications, excluding non-US applicants?

May be people still waiting are accepted.

People who are still waiting for a response— anything?

texas, i sure hope so.

I’m liking the idea of a list… would be useful right around now…

I love spring break but I am seriously so bored. I’m checking this thread/ my email every 20 minutes (in between episodes of the big bang theory)

I have not received anything today but my US mail has not come yet. Last check I think I counted 11 people who had not received anything.

Even with only 900 applicants thats still a 5.5% chance which is lower than most colleges. Plus RSI applicants are also a lot more self selecting I feel.

OK… here is the list of “waiting”. BTW, only rejections have been sent so far… not acceptances or waitlists. Update the list as you are notified of your result.

ender94

smitten

80 people are selected for RSI. If the 900 included non-domestic applicants, then the acceptance rate is 8.9 percent… not TOO bad.

I’m busy and bored at the same time. It’s pretty sad~

900 is much lower than I would have imagined. Am a bit surprised Maite released that information. That is a huge decline from last year! The 5.5% acceptance rate is in line with TASP acceptance rate…and yes, still lower acceptance than at any college.

I figured the 900 only accounts for US students (50 get in) because I heard that other countries select their participants on their own. I heard that in some places they are top winners in science competitions and in others they apply like us. That said I don’t think they are accounted for in the 900 applicants. Nevertheless, 8.9% is still low

smitten

boredinschool

paronomasia

(I just decided to add you guys)

I dont believe 900 includes non US or defense pool because their selection process is totally different as mentioned by Ender94.

What about the people who aren’t regular posters here but did post once or twice near the beginning of the thread? when you include them, it’s a pretty significant group that hasn’t heard, right?

We don’t know if they’ve heard or not, do we? Maybe they were too sad to post, haha

smitten, when you say no acceptances/waitlists have been sent out, is that from deduction or from talking to someone at CEE?

I’m a parent posting - my child is in a school with six applicants, three got rejection emails and three are awaiting some communication.

@paranomasia … deduction… there have been no reports of such here.

it seems like there are a lot of no notifications at this point… makes me curious.

@Svparent,

Well, that blows the “waiters are accepted” theory (not that I was ever that optimistic) as there is no way 3 kids from the same school will be accepted. Oh well…

looks like they may be doing it in waves, and that decisions aren’t done yet. on amy’s twitter (got this from last year’s thread. forgive the creeping), “We’re reviewing a list of applicants and deciding which scientists to accept. I am correcting colleagues who say “he” for female applicants.” and “It’s all being done virtual and paperless: Applicants are in a spreadsheet and we’re discussing over a telecon.” ([Amy Szczepanski (amyszczepanski) on Twitter](http://twitter.com/amyszczepanski))

Maybe I should be a detective instead.

Also, I wonder if Maite means that there are 900 left.

So I went through this thread and wrote down who has confirmed a rejection letter and who has said they have received nothing. I left out lomeinaddict because I couldn’t tell whether he was rejected or still waiting. I also left out trishk as we have no way of confirming he got in.

Anyways, 11 are still waiting and 20 have received emails saying they were rejected. When we add in svparent’s data we are at 14 and 23. I think that 14 is pretty high for us all to be accepted but we can only hope. Stay positive! especially since last year there were 8 cc’ers accepted and 12 if you count them plus their friends. That also does not count the waitlisted people.

here is the list of people still waiting to the best of my knowledge.
- Ender94
- hongmn
- boredinschool
- paronomasia
- college2012
- semperfidelis
- blugzms
- sMITten
- lovexlight
- got2surf
- 000000
12-14 students at svparent’s school

I think trish is a girl. And if anything, it means we made the first cut… so… yay!

PS. my friend from the same school is waiting as well.

@ paronomasia
nice catch. I remember seeing that in the thread from last year but completely forgot to check it. After a quick control+F for rsi I found this:

“Acting like a grown-up and not organizing mass ■■■■■■■■ of the RSI thread on CC. (Decisions get made when the key staff are all available.)
Fri Mar 04 2011 04:19:19 (MST) via Tweetie for Mac”

Do not know what to think of this…
