2011 RSI Discussion

im here too frasirfir lol. I think im worst though because I am still refreshing it every couple of minutes.

congrats ichimatsu

I’m an alternate!
I didn’t think my application was good at all, so I’m really proud of myself right now.
Should I send in additional materials? I have an abstract from a research project and an up-to-date transcript.

My S got accepted!

Alternate. East Coast. Sorry…a bit disappointed. Congrats to all that got in. You should be proud and thrilled! Talked to RSI and it seems that the applicant pool was even more highly qualified, even when compared to previous years. Oh well. Working on my other apps

:)

boredinschool - if you don’t mind my asking, where else are you planning on applying?

^^^tasp interview upcoming, maybe Ross Program, clark (but prob can’t go to these because it’s 7 and 8 weeks and I will possibly be in Europe one of the weeks), Oxford exchange, SSP, a summer sci internship through my school, Columbia Uni summer, and am now searching more summer internships through private mentors. Also am applying to an international program through my dad’s work. If anyone knows a good research program and they would like to, they can post it here! Thanks! But I understand that they some of these programs are competitive so…

How many alternates does RSI have in total?

Haven’t posted on this thread often…but anyway I got accepted!
Who’s going? There should be some kind of list or something…
Oh, from WV by the way…

^^^Congrats you lucky ducky!

i’ve kind of been silently stalking this thread for a while- but i got in too! just got my letter.
can’t wait to meet you all!

Alternate from Michigan…well can’t say I’m dissappointed. Would’ve only had one science ap going into this summer, so that part of my application probably hurt me. Everyone who was accepted, have fun! And to everyone who was rejected, you and I basically get the same thing in the end…I just get a fancy letter that tells me that I was rejected. :]

how do the alternate letters read? we regret to inform you or are pleased to inform you?

If you were accepted and want to get in on the facebook group, send me a PM and I’ll set you up :)

For the record, two alternates went on to be accepted last year.

Here’s the Alternate letter. It’s pretty nice actually.

Dear Mr. 000000

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Excellence in Education I am pleased to inform you that you have been chosen as an *Alternate/I to attend the twenty-eight annual Research Science Institute

yadayada

The competition for the few available places was extremely intense, with many more qualified applicants than positions available.

For some reason they decided to cross my name out at the top and then hand write it…haha their attempt to be more personal?

Really, two went last year? Out of how many alternates?

So the url now works, I’m not really sure why people had been having problems before…

Click the link. Join the group. YAY!

(this is why I’m not the tech assistant :P)

Congratulations to all those accepted! I’m in the RSI 2011 Facebook group, along with all of your counselors, so join and ask questions!

To all those that were perhaps disappointed with your result, I’ll just reiterate what greenbean12t said. RSI has so many qualified applicants yet a limited number of spots, so do not take rejection as a measure of your scientific potential. Many brilliant people I know were rejected from RSI, but have been accepted into prestigious colleges, won science fair awards, and are going to lead their fields in the future. Even at RSI, we’ve all been rejected and turned down from things, but take this and move forward.

Maybe this was meant to be and you’ll find some awesome research internship or have an amazing experience this summer otherwise.

I know rejection is rough and takes time to get over, but just by taking the initiative to apply, you’re showing a true dedication to science and a commitment to pursuing opportunities that will lead you to make tremendous discoveries and advances in the future. I look forward to seeing all that you will accomplish :)

Did any rejectees get into the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University? I didn’t get into RSI, but I was just waitlisted at Simons
Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to see some of you there?

In any case, congratulations to all RSI admitees! Have a blast!

Alternate!

So there are usually around 10 alternates, of which 2 get in, right? Not too hopeful about that, so it’s basically like being told “well, you’re still rejected, but only by thiiiis much” :P

To everyone accepted: congrats, you definitely deserve it, hope you have an amazing time this summer!
To everyone else: Oh well, it’ll still be a fun summer before senior year, time to make the most of it :D

Alternate, no regrets!

Congrats to everyone! :D

Can I still join the FB page? hee hee.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT IN!
i’m super jealous and i hope you guys have fun <3

I see eight alternates in this list - so, only two more likely left? We’ve not gotten an email or a letter, so any guesses on whether ours is acceptance or an alternate?
