2011 UCLA Transfers: The Central Thread for Discussion and Decisions

yeah… didn’t you?

nero103- i did.

The music major itself is very competitive and does have auditions and several prereqs. I applied for the Music History major which does not require an audition.
The department of Musicology is part of the College of Letters and Sciences. I plan on working in music librarianship so the program would be perfect for me, and I can only cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I think “things will get messy” may be referring to the large stack of oddball applicants such as me. They must have a lot of interesting folks applying this year.

It is not a requirement to have a year of foreign language.

Fuuuuuuuuhhhh…

I’m a 4.0 Pre-Political Science applicant, Regents invite, all pre-reqs done, strong essays and EC’s, and I don’t have any of the following signs of ostensible good news: UCLA e-mail creation notification prompt, major listed in myUCLA, financial aid summary (I didn’t submit a FAFSA, which might explain it), option to send in an SIR… :(

Either time is dwindling towards an unfortunate end for me, or it will all turn out well. Either way, the suspense is agonizingly stressful.

R6mikel- a year foreign language to graduate in a major in letters and science.

Were there really any other possibilities?

Nope, but I can’t help but worry about the outcome.

Pinoiako916 - Ohh okay, I get what you’re saying now. Never mind then!

1235192 - uh… with a 4.0 and what you say you should be in. I wouldn’t worry too much. I’ve heard they have slightly lowered the standards for political science students in the last few years, from political science students at UCLA.

@Pinoiako916

No, it’s not. That requirement is satisfied by IGETC. IGETC requires you to take coursework equal to two years of high school foreign language. At many CCCs this is two semesters, but at many CCCs a single one-semester course satisfies the requirement.

Now, if you don’t have IGETC it’s a different matter.

@pinaokibfdjghg…

It depends on your major, but for most L&S majors you don’t have to take a year of foreign language at a cc if you passed a foreign language in high school.

I took french in high school, and I took the recommended year (this time japanese) for Art History.

@ R6MikeL: I hope so… There’s a discussion somewhere in the CC UC Transfer (from 2009) about UCLA Rejects, and the few “4.0 Regents invite reject” stories on that thread are driving me crazy. @_@

@1235192: I know what you mean. I got the Regents invite too, but I can’t help thinking that it doesn’t guarantee anything. I also can’t access MYUCLA. Like you, I didn’t submit a FAFSA so that could be a reason we can’t access everything others on here can.

@deanzatransfer: Thanks, that’s probably the most concerting thing I’ve read in the past few days. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck :D

Well guys 5pm is going to roll around soon again. I am guessing its a nogo, but maybe… just maybe?

dont they usually tell admission decisions hours before on the day it is released?

well…another day with no decision gone by. time to smoke a cuban to celebrate getting in to 2 schools and destroying my bio2 exam today!

@ideal: I wish today is it, but I don’t think they’re releasing today.
@1235192: Lol, your post was concerting to me too!

“I just spoke to the admissions office. An admissions adviser told me that they haven’t finished making decisions yet, and that we would know by next Friday (last day of the month) at the absolute latest. The earliest (according to the woman I spoke with) will be next Wed. So everyone hold on a little longer - best of luck to all of us!”

got this off the ucla fb page!
