Accepted today into COLA with roughly a 3.77 GPA, 42 credit hours, and pretty solid essays. Good luck to those who are still waiting.

I was just accepted to COLA Economics with a 3.44!! Now, what do I do to accept admission and make sure that I can enroll? There doesn’t seem to be an option to accept!!

Omg… So nervous. They said I will hear back tomorrow D:

Does anyone know anything about financial aid/scholarships that we may receive for the spring semester?

I got accepted into the COLA today! :D

I missed the registration for the orientation. Does this mean I lost my spot in the university and I’m no longer able to enroll?

Lake, no, if you,are a transfer student then orientation is not required, merely highly advised. You might still have the advising bar on you though, in which case go and get advised to register.

I still haven’t been accepted yet! It still says I’m missing my transcript but I hand delivered it on the 2nd…now I’ve missed orientation…this is rediculous I feel like they should be moving along faster. If I get in I’m going to have to be advised, register, buy dorm stuff, sign a lease at the Castilian, move in, all in like 4 days time. I’d be soooo happy to get in but at this point it’ll be a complete nightmare.

Call admissions UTHopefull, if you know you delivered your transcript and it is getting this close to the start of the semester, a phone call won’t hurt you.

Be ready to be VERY flexible when it comes to choosing your classes.

Lake, you can get advised anytime so long as you were admitted.

Make sure you call the department to ensure an appointment is not required.

-Transferring from UH
-Applying to Cockrell (Petroleum Engineering)
-35 hours this year, including this semester
-GPA is a 3.43 but I’m trying to raise it to a 3.6 this semester
-Essays are well revised by several people
-EC: SPE, AADE, Intramural Sports, Honors Engineering Program. I go to all the meetings and participate.

With the kinda low GPA for Cockrell, do I stand any chance? All advice is appreciated! Good luck to all of you!

Hi guys, I’m currently a sophomore majoring in film production at a university in California, but I’ve gone through a lot of change during the past few months and now I wish to study Electrical Engineering. Hopefully I can be closer to home and study at UT, but I’m not sure if I can make it. I really messed up my GPA right from the get go with about a 2.8 my first semester, but I’ve been trying to fix it. As of this past fall semester, I have a 3.42, which isn’t too bad, but is definitely not enough. I know it sounds like a silly idea, a film major hoping to transfer into Cockrell, but I actually really like calculus and physics. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be accepted to transfer into Cockrell with my grades, but I’ve heard from many that it would be easier to transfer into their College of Liberal Arts or College of Natural Sciences and, if accepted, I could spend a semester boosting my GPA before internally transferring into Cockrell. I’m taking all engineering classes this upcoming semester and will apply to transfer before the March deadline. What do yall think? Sorry for writing so much, but I really appreciate the help and advice!

Being an Out of state student makes it difficult for me to give you advice.

Be wary of the Engineering classes you take, UT is pretty strict about the engineering credits it allows.

As far as coming to UT, the idea of coming to UT and boosting your GPA is tough for me to agree with you on. The courses at UT are not predictable, and classes that are considered easy at one time, may not be when you take them.

Best of luck

IWant2Transfer

I am really sorry, but I don’t believe UT will let you transfer to engineering either internally or externally.
A good thing about engineering is that you can get job with degree from any state university, so why don’t you try Texas Tech or something from that academic range?

Hey Guys,
New to the site, and glad to see i’ve found a reliable source for information regarding UT Admissions.

I am a Lone Star College Student, and I recently applied to UT - Austin Cockrell School of Engineering with the following stats:

1st Choice Major: Biomedical Engineering
2nd Choice Major: Biology
Total Hours: 51
GPA: 3.549
I also calculated my GPA with only courses listed on their recommended transfer list and it then calculated to be a 3.55

Has anyone had a similar situation with this GPA combination? Also, I have not yet completed Calculus, but I will be enrolled in Calculus starting this Spring semester. I intend to complete this Spring Semester with all A’s, and my final GPA will be 3.651. I also plan to take some classes over the summer, which would bring my GPA up to 3.7.

What do you guys think about this?
Thanks for the help in advance,
Chris

Internal transfers for Biomedical sit around a 3.6, so I would imagine you should shoot for that 3.7.

Make sure you knock out the pre-reqs.

@propayne7

Thanks for your reply,
Deffinetly will be shooting for that GPA.
I will have all the pre-reqs by the end of the summer. This is what i’m worried about. Isn’t my admission decision going to be delayed without all of the pre-reqs? I’ve also applied to A&M College of Engineering for Biomedical as well, and they pretty much have the same pre-req’s. Obviously at the end of the summer, the Fall semester starts shortly after…

Pre-Req’s i’m taking over the summer:

Summer 1:
Calculus 2 - 2414
Physics - 2425

Summer 2:
Physics - 2426

Would I be able to be accepted into the school by submitting my transcript again at the end of the Spring semester showing I have completed Calculus? (and most of the other pre-reqs besides those summer courses obviously)

EDIT:
I listed all of the courses I am anticipating to complete along with the semester on my application.

“Applicants who meet the requirement by the application deadline will receive priority consideration. Applicants with additional math and science credentials also receive priority consideration.”

The above is straight from the External Transfer website for Cockrell. Your first idea would be best, submit transcripts showing completion of Science and Math courses that you have completed at the end of the second semester. They usually don’t fill up all of their slots until all applicants have been reviewed (of course), but from what I’ve gathered from their website, if someone has a 3.9 and has completed the same courses as you by the time fall comes around, it is likely they will get the spot over you. That being said, shoot for that 3.7 or higher if possible, to set yourself above others. You won’t be granted admissions until your prereqs are complete, meaning, just because your transcript in the Spring will show you are enrolled in a Calc 2 course in the summer means UT won’t accept it until you complete it.

Argh, thanks for your reasoning and explanation.

Unfortunately the Spring semester wont be complete until May 12 for me, past their application deadline. Yet I will obviously still be re-sending my transcript. Hopefully i’ll be able to snatch up a slot then, but I fear I will have already received some sort of admission decision by then.

Another thing I have been confused about was the pre-reqs for Biomedical engineering. The A&M Biomedical Engineering program clearly states the requirements to be admitted to Biomedical Engineering being:
ENGL 104 (3 credit hours)
MATH 151 (4 credit hours) (Cal 1)
MATH 152 (4 credit hours) (Cal 2)
PHYS 218 (4 credit hours)
PHYS 208 (4 credit hours)
CHEM 101/111 or CHEM 107/117
CHEM 102/112

On the other hand with UT, I have only founded a file with “Courses recommended for transfer” after selecting Biomedical engineering on their website. The only real “Requirement” I have found for Cockrell has been Calculus 1.

Here is the page I was referring to for UT Engineering (The course numbers listed are in reference to Austin Community College):
http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/acc/current/engineering.pdf

[External Transfer Students - Cockrell School of Engineering](<a href=“Undergraduate Admissions”>Undergraduate Admissions)

From that website, you need Differential and Integral Calculus, or Calc1 and Calc2

Well you seem to have answered all of my questions, haha. Thanks a lot for your help and quick responses as well.

Not quite sure i’ll be getting accepted to Biomedical Engineering, but I still have hope. I will deffinetly be telling everyone whenever I get my response.

I listed my 2nd Choice major as Biology as I believe I mentioned before, I feel pretty confident that I should be able to be accepted with that major. Originally I had wanted to major in Biology anyways. Too many choices haha.

Have a lot of work to do… Well not really, but time wise it’s pretty frustrating. It’s too bad they don’t accept applications to the School of Engineering for the Spring Semester or I would just be completing all of my prereqs and applying then, instead of attempting to rush it all last minute.
