Some Longhorns will probably kill me for this, but Engineering is Engineering. UT and aTm may have prestige and exclusivity, but last time I checked, the job market for engineers was strong regardless of school.

Strongly consider Texas Tech, Texas State, North Texas, or Houston if UT and aTm don’t accept you. If you want that big-name Texas school degree, come on back for Post-Grad.

I am sophmore at UTSA doing mechanical engineering, and want to transfer to UT for petroleum engineering.

My gpa is currently 3.87
So far i have taken or im in:
-Calculus I & II
-Egr Physics I
-Chem I & II
-Statics
other gen ed classes.

I have not take many engineering classes since i had a few pre-reqs to knock out, and i recently got out of the military and had to refresh my memory. I did 4 years active and now I’m part of the selected reserves so hopefully that will help my application. I was not the best student in high-school but from my understanding it doesn’t really matter now.

Please let me know what y’all think. Thanks

Do y’all think I have a shot???
Currently: Freshman at Texas State University
Major: Geography - Environmental and Resource Studies
Hours after Fall 2012 semester is complete: 38
GPA: 3.82 on Texas State’s scale

I don’t have much extracurricular activities, but do you think that I will be able to transfer if I keep my GPA high? I’m trying to transfer in to the Liberal Arts College as a Government or International Studies major. Any tips???

Anybody want to read either one of my essays? I think they are pretty good right now but I’d like some feedback on them.

Also chance me (Fall 2013 RTF, UGS second choice):

-Freshman at community college. Got fours As and one B but because of dual credit English during my senior year of high school I only have a 3.43 GPA. I think I can bring it to at least a 3.6 if not a 3.75 by the end of this semester though.
-A letter from my history professor and, if possible, my communications professor (who graduated from RTF).
-Part time job at Best Buy as a video game salesperson.
-Accepted to honors program at my school (not actually enrolled however because they didn’t bother telling me until three days before school started).
-Pretty solid essays (still writing them of course).
-37 hours after this semester (21 when applying)
-Hispanic Texas resident.

With my stats do you think I have a decent shot into RTF? What about into UGS?

@Xcellerator: I just finished speaking with admissions over the phone for a question I had about the degree plan. I also asked them about my statistics and they said judging from my GPA, and assuming my essays are as good as I think they are (by the way somebody should read them) and I get all As this semester (which, from the looks of it, seems like a safe bet since I have so much study time now), I’ll have more than enough for UGS. RTF’s average GPA for Fall 2011 was a 3.66 (my exact GPA if I get all As this semester) and I think my essays are really good (not to mention I might end up having two recommendation letters) so I think I have a pretty good shot. We shall see in June.

Sorry I don’t know where I would ask this question so I’m just going to here.

I’m a senior in high school right now so these are all asumptions.
My junior year in high school I took a dual credit class with ACC but got 2 C’s so my college GPA is a 2.0 going into next year. I’m trying to see what I can do about it right now like retaking the class but let’s say I can’t do anything about it and I’m stuck with the 2.0 with 2 credits, 6 hours. US history 1&2.
I’m going to go to UTSA next year and will CAP, but I will try my hardest to achieve all A’s and I think I can do it. I don’t know what my GPA would be if I got all A’s my first year at UTSA with my 2.0 already but will it affect my chances at getting into the McCombs school of business?
So basically if I get a 4.0 my first year at UTSA but then it combines with my 2.0 from dual credit will it affect my chances at mccombs?
Sorry I’m just trying to make sure I’m as clear as possible

@Samtasticsam To my knowledge the GPA from ACC won’t transfer. If you decided to go to ACC then it would count against your GPA. Since you are going to UTSA your GPA should be whatever you have at UTSA. You’ll still have to send in your ACC transcript whenever you transfer but the GPA they will use is UTSA. This is judging from the fact that all my friends who took dual credit English with me all told me that their GPA wasn’t affected at all even though they only got Bs in English.

Sucks for me though because the same college I took dual credit at is the same college I am at now. If it weren’t for dual credit I’d have a 3.8 GPA and most likely a 3.9 whenever I finish off this semester (3.43 right now, 3.6ish by the time I finish this semester hopefully).

I applied by the transfer deadline in Feb 2012. Didn’t get accepted until May. Of course, I had to finish my spring courses and get them transferred before I could meet the 30 hour limit.

@Propayne7l: Does the time you apply make any difference? My application is pretty much complete I’m just scared of pressing that submit button. Going to get my essays looked at and see if that helps.

I don’t work for admissions so anything I give you is only speculation. That being said, GPA is the majority of what you need to get admitted. In my opinion, they probably don’t start looking too heavily into essays until they have to nearly identical applicants. I imagine the deadline is not until mid Feb, so if you are unsure of your essays, definitely take them to a professor or someone you respect and have them look at them. I would imagine that the time you apply doesn’t make too much of a difference, especially if you aren’t having to wait for your Spring semester courses to come through.

@propayne7: My personal issue essay I’m very confident on but my statement of purpose I am unsure of. I don’t know if this is just because I’m scared I’ll be denied though. I’m pretty sure my GPA will be at least a 3.63 (3.66 if I get all As) and, according to the multiple admisison people I talked to over the phone, I should have a decent shot at RTF. Still though, I’m really scared I’ll get denied.

Hi Yall,
I read some of your replies and i thought you might be able to help me out. I am transferring as a freshman(currently) from Texas State University and I wanted to know which major I had a better chance of getting accepted in. My GPA is currently a 3.3 but i plan on getting it to a 3.6 by the end of this semester.
(Fall 2013)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
