congrats to entomom’s D!

I think the big issue with UW is the high price tag for OOS. It is a great school otherwise.

I think the big issue with UW is the high price tag for OOS. It is a great school otherwise.

^Yes, unfortunately a couple of years ago they stopped giving IS tuition rates to OOS students the second year. However, when talking to them about gaining residency earlier this year, they did say that some scholarships were available to help defray the cost of OOS tuition, so we’ll see how that goes next spring when we compare schools.

WooHoo!! That is a biggie!!

entomom, Congrats to you and D. It is nice to hear early and you are in the enviable position of declining invitations to interview which will save both time and money.

Entomom BIG CONGRATS! to your daughter on UWash!!

It was son’s app cycle that was the last year UW offered the residency for MS2, something he was very focused on. His med school now still offers the OOS to in-state for MS2 but its the getting in OOS that is so hard as is UWash! That OOS tuition is killer!

But what an acceptance!! Again congrats! Has she heard from Michigan? ( I’m assuming she applied!)

YAHOOOOOO!!

Kat

Yup. That luxury of bagging a great acceptance early changes the game for the better. The way it was viewed at my house was : Would I attend UDub (or in her case UTSW and Baylor) at full cost over ______ even with a scholarship or good FA? If so, then she withdrew from consideration or turned down the interview. Took 3 or 4 schools outta the mix.

Of course, now that I think about it, my kid’s schools were both in-state and reasonably priced for tuition purposes. Which helped with the cuts (OOS or privates with high tuitions).

^^^^Same for son as Curm’s daughter. In-state acceptance with a scholarship (low tuition to begin with) and 2 that met need. So yes, was able to eliminate some after that.

Kat

Kat,

She didn’t apply to Michigan, which I was a little surprised at as she really liked the time she spent in AA. She did mention something about their big emphasis on applicants having done significant research, which is one of her weak points. However, that doesn’t make too much sense since she insisted on applying to a couple of research heavy CA schools that I warned her were very long shots. Of course I had eat my words when she got IIs to both.

Guess I’m not quite as shell shocked about UDub’s OOS tuition because unfortunately our IS tuition is one of the highest in the country for a public med school, way above all the lucky TX folks!

Many, many congratulations to entoD! What a feather for her.

You and she have got to be enormously pleased to have so many choices.

BTW, D2 will be envious–she loved her stay in Seattle and would love to go back there for med school.

congrats to entomom’s D! my S2 would love seattle, his older brother lives there, but he realizes that will be a long shot.

Big congrats to entomom’s D!

Both you and your D must be very happy to have this one among your choices.

curm, DS had gone through the same thought process as in your post #346 in his application year. I think he decided to not go anywhere that requires air travel. (He really hated air travel after being tortured by it for many years during UG. Hmm…if we really love them, should we attempt to move closer? LOL.)

woohoo! good for her. how exciting!!! that’s awesome :)

Hey EntoMom, did DD apply to Kristin & Curmudgette’s schools? We can have a tug of war over her since she is in with my DD and in with GAMom’s DD So nice for her to have all the options!

Thanks for all the well wishes!

She applied almost exclusively in the East and West, so she didn’t apply to Kristin’s school but she did apply to Curm’s Ds school. She likes the independent nature of their curriculum, but is a little conflicted about being in her old stomping grounds for 4 (or 5) more years ;).

She’s ours. Hands off , you leeches. ;)

You can keep her ;)

-Absolutely the same here. 2 hours of driving works perfectly, closer than 3.5hrs in UG, but even that was acceptable. It was D’s criteria #1 in shoosing both UG and Med. School. She just draw a radius around our house and absolutely refused to apply outside it. One of “outside” ones was UW.
But it is an awesome school and huge congrats to entomom’s D!!! Great accomplishment.

All of you can back off, we had her first! :)

Congrats Entomom and D.

Great news Entomom and D! To me UW = Harvard of the West. They have the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (world renown) and strong departments in every specialty. Everyone’s financial situation is different but UW is one school I would take out loans for.
