He’ll have a tough (read: near impossible) time finding a specialty without “repeat offenders”. :D

Another one hit the dust: IM is on NO list, which will rule out several specialties. I bet it will change after rotations, or I hope so. The YES list is very short.
In regard to observation about Med. Students from Texas, California is very big at most Med. schools in Medwest, at least based on number of interviewed at every place that D. went and definitely in her current class.

Kristin,
My D. is so in synch with you with your comment "I’m so happy there are people like your kids out there who like to do the surgery and EM stuff! " for the same reasons also. She realy values meanningful contacts with patients…so far. One patient told her straight into her face that she was the best Med. Student she ever talked to.

Just called up a school to ask a question about applying for FA since D1 is running into problems getting one of her W2s. When I asked about the Profile (yes, the Profile!) they told me to submit now with estimates and then update and resubmit like with FAFSA. I told them that Profile doesn’t permit online corrections once submitted and they seemed a little flummoxed. Oh my, now I’m wondering about the validity of the information they gave me…

^^^^^The Profile and not Need Access?

Kat

Yup, 1 school wants the Profile, and of course it’s the school she really likes ;).

It has been a few years since we did the Profile and I don’t think you could go back and correct. Hmmm.

Can you estimate the FAFSA and hold off on the Profile til her W2 comes in? Or do they have an early financial aid deadline that requires the Profile ASAP?

Kat

You cannot make corrections to Profile for schools that you list when you submit. You can make corrections and send to different schools but the corrections are not sent to the original schools.

Submit your completed application. The submit process will prompt you to complete any required fields that you have left blank, will note any possible discrepancies in information, and provide a final opportunity to review and correct the information you have entered. Once you have submitted your application, you cannot change any of the data online you have provided for the colleges and programs you selected. (If you send your PROFILE information to additional colleges and programs through the “Add Colleges to Submitted Application” process you will have the opportunity to update your application responses. Your updated data will only be reported to the added colleges or programs.)

Thanks, yes, I know, I’ve been filling out the Profile for the past 6 years :). It’s the person working in the FA office that didn’t know this, kinda scary .

I’m going to have D1 call herself and hopefully get someone else. The deadline is way late, but I just want to play it very safe and would prefer to get the FA package ASAP to compare to others.

Do they send out FA packages early/in a timely manner? I know at my school, all packages go out at the same time (mid-May) regardless of when you submit the paperwork. (But I choose to do it early anyway…)

They told me today that time wasn’t a factor as long as it was before the deadline, hopefully that part was accurate.

Wow, mid-May, when are final matriculation decisions due, the end of May?

On May 15th, a student may only hold 1 acceptance.

This means your D will need to make a decision at least a few days in advance of that so she has time to formally withdraw from all her other acceptances.

(I suspect kristin meant mid-April, not mid-May since AMCAS requires students have their FA packages by May 1st.)

(It may well have been mid-Apr for matriculating students, can’t recall, but for continuing students, we don’t get decisions back until mid/end May)

Son just received his second med school acceptance! Yay…now he has a choice. Still hoping for one more.

Congrats to you and your son!

Choice is nice.

mom2ck, Congrats! Any additional acceptances would be icing on the cake as he will “wear the white coat” in the future no matter what.

Congratulations to your S m2ck!

And good luck to everybody on the final ones! Can you believe we’re coming to the wire (at least for admissions decisions)?!

^^^

Yes, it’s all coming together. I remember starting this thread in 2011 and the “process” seemed to be a long time ahead. Now, it’s all ending.

I’m just happy that son has a second acceptance so he will feel like he has a choice. I think it’s just good for morale. Still hoping for a third acceptance to come thru. That school has been very silent for a long time. It gave out a few acceptances early on…and then they’ve gone silent.

In the end, it’s all good! :)

Congrats to your S !

m2ck - congrats to your son!
