Received the acceptance packet from a school with an Indication of Intent that must be sent by mid-Feb. It gives just 2 options, accept or decline a place in the class.

Right before the Indication of Intent it states:

I’m assuming that ‘accepting a place in the class’ is different from ‘enrollment’ and that D1 accepts now, waits for other decisions and FA offers, and is fine as long as she withdrawals before May 15. Correct?

Thanks, that’s a relief! The verbiage really threw me the first time I read it. It seems like other schools had an option that didn’t sound so absolute, like a tentative acceptance or something. Sorry for the false alarm :o.

entomom, I would have thought that medical schools would be above using the crass pressure tactics of a used car salesman. I suppose some have decided to use the carrot while others prefer the stick. You have gained some insight into how this particular school operates.

I would not make any conclusions before getting more familiar with the school, surroundings, program and a student body and how school treats its students. The acceptance letter is nothing, it is just a verbage, standard form that somebody (might be not even at school any more) decided to use and it might not be reviewed for a while. Some procedural things fall thru the cracks…the most important is to keep as many options as possible and decide at the end when you have more info about each school.

D2’s BFF from high school received her first medical school acceptance yesterday. She was accepted to an OOS public that has <15% OOS enrollment and with which she has no particular affiliation.

The BFF has a less than ideal MCAT, but otherwise good grades, and excellent ECs that paint a consistent picture of her medical interest in working with underserved communities. She’s also bilingual in Spanish and fluent in Italian.

BFF has one waitlist (GW) and is still waiting to hear back post-interview from 2 more schools–our state med school plus another OOS public that generally doesn’t even interview OOS applicants. (I’m convinced she’s a shoo-in for our state med school, but they don’t send acceptances out until mid-March.)

Great news WOWMom, she must be relieved and ecstatic!

That’s tough to have to wait to the very end to find out about your IS public. Even though it’s a pretty sure bet, it’s always nice to see that ‘We are pleased to…’ so that you can rest a little easier.

Maybe my D1 and the BFF will meet each other in that public that only looks at OOS applicants interested in working with underserved populations?

She’ll gladly attend where she’s accepted but she really, really wants to come back instate.

LOL! D1 helped BFF prep for her interview here, was her tour guide on interview day and has invited BFF to be her roomie next year. D2 is already grumbling that D1 likes BFF better than she ever liked her own sister.

Just waking this thread up from it’s late cycle slumber. Can you believe that it’s almost over and we’ll be yielding the floor to the entering class of 2014?

Everybody finished with taxes & FA paperwork?

We’ve completed FAFSA, Profile, Need Access, IDOC, sending tax forms and almost all school forms. Still some scholarships for D1 to apply to whenever the school posts them.

Still more schools to hear from this month?

Two more here, great schools but due to location probably not on the final list unless they come through with beaucoups bucks, so highly unlikely.

I’m definitely late to this thread. DS applied to both MD/Ph.D. programs (MSTP) and MD programs. It’s a different process in many ways than straight M.D. Anyhow, so far one acceptance for MD out-of-state with a very generous scholarship and one acceptance to an MD/Ph.D. program (fully funded with a stipend). He actually has another interview at another one next week. He has still not heard from some schools, but it seems almost certain he’ll go the MD/Ph.D. route.

Mimk…congratulations to your son and your family.

we’re still waiting on one more possible acceptance. That school supposedly does a good number of their acceptances around mid-March. Fingers crossed. Son likes his two other acceptance schools, but this last one is very desirable, too.

In the end, we’ve been pleased with how things have gone. Son wished he had been able to submit earlier than he did (late July), so it did affect his desire/time to do secondaries. In the end, he blew off most of his secondaries and only completed 6. (ugh! don’t recommend that!!). So, if he ends up with 3 acceptances, we’re thinking that’s pretty dang good.
