Zfam -- you're welcome. We just got back from a visit and had a great time. The hotel was nice and fairly reasonable, but man, the drive from NC was MURDER! We're exploring other modes of transportation or thinking of breaking the trip into 2 days.

Zfam- Last year admissions asked for a notarized copy of birth certificate to keep on file not the original. Academy personal office needs this copy to send away for official red passport. So I believe you wont be able to get the birth certificate you sent anytime soon.

Got my acceptance package, finally!

No, the birth certificate I sent back in January was not returned.

The Parent Handbook and the Cadet Handbook are not included in the package, but they did email them to me later that same day.

There is a "hometown press release" form in there, and a request to have your certificate formally presented at the school's award night.

The official appointment certificate is very nice, in a nice folder.

There's even a "Join the Alumni Club" enrollment form!

Now I have to go get a TB test as required, and I think I'll need to get a few more shots. I got my panagraphic xrays done last week, my wisdom teeth don't look to be impacted. The academy said not to get them out, but to send the xrays for them to evaluate.

69 days to R-day!

Go Bears! Beat KP!

HaroldG.... we're also traveling from nc. we 'split' the trip.. drove to family member in maryland, stayed overnite, then took amtrak to new london. we haven't even tried to drive the whole 13 hrs straight !

Just a note on the passport:
apply now so you will have it on R-Day
The Eagle trip during Swap summer will be on the west coast so a passport will not be needed. So if you do not get the passport before R-day you can have it mailed to you.
I believe they kept the my S Birth certificate

thanks everyone...once again, I wish I had known about this site mos ago! I called admissions yesterday and worked out birth cert issue. (lesson learned, never send the only copy of anything...always have extra copies). Have a checklist, still feel calm, maybe not so relaxed, but it's ok. 68 days!

Son is on waitlist...

Keeping our fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Backup plan is in place, but everything else is on hold until we find out.

Question regarding majors at USCGA:
Is one major recommended above the others?
Son has strong math skills, but not in love with math. Could someone compare/contrast majors at USCGA.

Of the 8 majors offered, four are engineering. That leads me to believe that engineering is valued above the others.

But I hear that many cadets who start out as engineering majors end up in government or management.

I'm leaning toward mechanical engineering.

Go Bears! Beat KP!

The electronic questionnaire for investigating processing forms (sheesh, that's a mouthful)was not included in our pkt, Cadet hdbk says it's "online, instructions sent separately". Do they send to son's email?
They forgot the alumni membership form, too, but hey, let's get thru swab summer first.
We made a big dent in everything else, passport is being processed, dental & immunizations appts this week...yahoo, I think it's 62 days & a wake-up now?
Watched "The Guardian" this weekend. Told son it was time to hit the pool and start swimming laps...NOW.

DM68 and others who wait, keeping you in thoughts and prayers...

Go Bears!

My daughter received her acceptance package Friday, Apr 25. She is originally from Virginia but has lived in Texas for a few years. I've been reading a lot on the board and maybe her experience will give future applicants ideas and hope. She did not get her complete application packet in until the March deadline though she had her physical done in January. She never had an interview and will not see the campus until R-Day. Are there others from Texas?

im from austin

Son is from Alpharetta, Ga (Atlanta). Just got the news this morning. Waiting for the paperwork.

Hi br2011 - my daughter is from League City (halfway between downtown Houston and Galveston Island). She is leaning toward government/law vs engineering. Have you decided your program yet?
