2012 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

@cherryli2015
I sent the check in a while ago…Early November-ish? I would assume that it was a couple of weeks before it changed. I didn’t check every day.

When I log in now, it still gives me the “complete your registration” button, but I can’t make any changes to the writing pieces. It says they’ve been uploaded (but does yours say that, too?)

I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I’m in the Northeast Region at Large.

@ watchmesoar
The “complete your registration” button is there, and I still can click it, it brought me to another page with the message: “You’re almost done!”
I am not sure whether your “complete your registration” button can be clicked or been disabled.

This website is shared by all regions. Everyone uses the same software to submit no matter which region s/he is at.

Okay. So the bottom line is I never got anything saying “You are done!” or “Registration Complete”. I guess you’ll just have to assume that the forms/check made it there safely and they have your stuff.

@watchmesoar,

Thanks for reply my questions. They need to improve their submit software.

Okay guys here is how it goes:

Once the deadline has passed it won’t let you edit your piece and will say “category closed”. The “complete your registration” button will stay there until the whole program is over (long after they announce the results). There is no page that says “Your Done!” Or anything! If you want to make sure they got your forms and payment you need to contact your regional rep.

Oh, ****. I totally forgot about this.

I sent in solely a memoir.
The Scholastic site doesn’t announce the winners for the New York Life scholarship, does it?

Yeah, my regional deadline is tomorrow, just finished mailing my submission form/check and uploading/saving work online. The parent signature got cut off when I printed out the form so I just wrote it on there and had my mom sign it, I hope that’s fine.

Thanks @emeraldEvi! I did submit a senior portfolio, so hopefully things turn out in my favor.

@eltn1994- I just wanted to let you know that (at least for my Midwest RAL), the forms have to reach the Belin-Blank Center by December 23rd- if you mailed it today, did you use one-day express mail? It’s quite ambiguous on the Scholastic website about whether the deadlines for forms+checks are postmark deadlines or receive deadlines but I checked and the forms have to reach by tomorrow. Hope this helps you!

If anyone is submitting a piece for the bullying scholarship, I’d love if you could PM me. I’ve got a project for you.

Really excited for this year…I’ve submitted works for the past two years and won some awards, but this will be my only opportunity to garner something for a writing portfolio. For anyone else who’s doing one: how long are your artist’s statements?

@ivyandlemonade: Scholastic does announce the winners for the NYL scholarship on their website, but if you win it, you’ll know before the information is put up. (At least that’s how they did it last year, when I won it.)

@andthelightsblur I am also Midwest RAL, and yes, I did call the center today and confirm that forms/fees need to be there tomorrow afternoon, so I sent it out tonight with standard overnight. Should be fine, thank you for your concern though! Good luck!

For sources cited, do we put it in the actual text box that has our submission or in the box below it that asks about outside info.

^Crap! i forgot to do sources cited…

I have a little less than two weeks before my deadline and I’m suuupeeerrrrr nervous. I know there are some deadlines in November, so does anyone know their results?

Ahhhh my deadline was December 17th, but I don’t think we find out until February (at least we did last year). Best of luck!

Californians find out in late January. Will anyone be doing the novel competition? 50 pages and a synop doesn’t sound bad.

@ivy, I’m doing the novel contest. I only have around 23 pages right now I: and I still need to edit everything.

@miceman, I’m pretty sure it’s included with your work and not a separate page.

for the novel, does it have to be 50 pages? in the category it says “up to 50 pages.” would that imply that 50 pages is the maximum??
