2012 UC-to-UC Transfer Thread

Hi everyone. I’m currently a Robotics Engineering freshmen at UCSC. I just completed my fall quarter with a 3.72 gpa (A’s in my 2 core classes and CMPE8 robot automation, and B in math 19B-calculus for science, engineering and math). The only extracurricular I’ve been a part of this quarter is a competitive dance group. I really don’t like the campus here at Santa Cruz, and I want to transfer to UCI, UCLA, UCB, UCSD, or UCSB. However, I am COMPLETELY LOST on how the transferring process works. These campuses don’t seem to offer robotics engineering, so I assume my closest option would be computer engineering… Can someone please help me with tips/guidelines on what I need to do/what classes I need to take or who I can talk to to help me with all this? Any information helps!!! Thanks.

is the gpa calculated as the one shown on your transcript?

^I think if you’re at a UC, then pretty much every course transfers (however I do not know if remedial courses like in math/english counts toward transfer GPA?)

well it says 3.72 for my fall quarter gpa on my.ucsc.edu

Time for a regroup. How did Fall Quarter end for everyone? How’s everyone doing so far in Winter Quarter? I’m starting to feel the pressure not to fail…

Hello everyone!

Last quarter was challenging, I took 20 units (12 of which were upper division) at UCSB. Pulled off a 4.0 (with 1 A+, which matters for PreLaw guys like me), so I hope the adcoms see a strong finish as a very positive attribute.

This quarter is a joke; I’m taking 12 units for the first time and it is insanely easy. I have calculated that I only need 12 units a quarter for the rest of my college life to graduate, so I guess this is my life now, haha

3.1 fall quarter for my first quarter. Trying to transfer for my third year. Now Im actually deciding to work hard and trying to get into some clubs. Already my grades look phenomonally better.

Also trying to transfer from UCSD to UCLA which is why I have to boost my GPA to the max. Also if you double major at one UC and then switch to another, how does that work?

@mmsiphone lol I basically need 12-13 units as well to finish all my GEs for the rest of the year  Taking math this quarter though which might kill my gpa a bit

@cheddargoldfish which math are you in?

and you guys are so luck. I only need 3 more classes for GEs, but honors requirement will require me to take 19-20units spring quarter >.<

I’m taking math 5 =(!! midterm tomm haha boo!! Do you know what english 1c classes are going to be provided next quarter? Still have to fulfill that GE

Oh good luck!
yes! look on schedule of classes! classes for nxt qtr are up. There’s Dance 07W and Hist20W. I’m going to take Dance7W cuz I already took Hist20 already. I really don’t wanna take dance x.x

omg!! I’m going to take dance 7w too!! but there’s only 200 spots and the discussions are ALL on friday lol… i wonder what my chances are in getting into the class… =( I only have like 87 units so I’m behind most of the seniors and juniors

I hope you get in! I think you will be competing w/ sophomores and juniors for that class, not seniors since they have priority in 1C. enrollment appt on Growl is coming out nxt wk.

Yeah =( I also need ethnic studies! But ethnic studies 1 conflicts with dance 7w so I probably will have to take another one. Hopefully I get into the classes I need!! What do you think will happen if we’re missing like a GE? Will UCLA/UCB rescind your application?

I have no idea. You probably need to email them or something if you have previously put on the app that you’ll be receiving UC Reciprocity but don’t end up getting it

Hmm, yeah but hopefully I will be able to take all the classes I need somehow… I might have to try to squeeze into English 1C haha but by junior and senior priority that means we have to wait till make up enrollment to enroll?

I think they would rescind. Cal and UCLA take their prereqs and GEs pretty seriously. They do the same for IGETC complications i think.

@mmsiphone really?..bummer then. I hope i get classes next qtr.

@cheddargoldfish seniors not only get priority in 1C, the course is only restricted to seniors. so either way, anyone who needs 1c must do it thru WAC :/

Oh, hmm we better get our classes then X__X but don’t you have priority registration? I am just on regular registration haah

yea i do. But I hope both of us get the classes we need to transfer! it’d suck to be rescinded just because of GEs.

Btw, what are you guys’ stats after fall qtr?
