@northbeach I’m not sure I understand…so UCLA asked you some question and SB accepted you right after? How would LA help you get SB to admit you? Not sure

^ well, if you have been following the “UC holistic review process” stories, that would explain it. otherwise, i can see why you would be confused. according to the new holistic review process, providing it is correct, then applicants to multiple UC schools. for example: UCLA, CAL, UCSB, UCD, UCSC, will have reviews and ranking done by UCLA and CAL who will deliver their reports to the other schools. based on those reports, the other UC schools will decide about your admission. now i am not saying this is an absolute truth, but it seems to be very plausible in my case. the idea is that schools will save time and money having UCLA and CAL review the apps.

if you did not apply to UCLA and CAL, then it has been speculated that the schools like UCSB and UCSC will more carefully consider your direct applications. you can google “UC and Holistic reviews” for more information. i have just been reading a bunch of stuff regarding the admissions processing within the UC system for students like myself. but that does not mean that i am right.

here is some additional info about this:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1306513-ucsc-using-holistic-scores-ucb-ucla-admit-decisions.html

@Northbeach thanks for the info. So If I’m getting this right, this only applies to UCSC. So even if you got accepted to UCSB it doesn’t mean you’re getting rejected from LA and Cal I hope.

Chelz, well, I haven’t actually been there either, but the pictures are nice. Hahah. I thought about going down there to check it out. Are you going to visit the campus if you decide to go? I actually have a 3.34, and I’m a sociology major. I applied to UCLA just to try what will happen. Lol. I know people that got accepted into UCLA in the 3.2-3.4 GPA range, so I’ll see what UCLA decision is. What’s your GPA?

IF it is true that UCSB bases their admissions on rankings done at CAL and UCLA, it would mean that if you were “accepted” to UCSB you would still have a chance to get into those two schools. not sure if you just wrote that wrong, or i just totally confused you. sorry about that. i must be babbling. did you mean rejected from UCSB or accepted?

this is not something that applies only to UCSC. it would apply to ALL other UC schools (other than UCLA and UCB who are said to be doing their own reviews).

seems so simple to me, but i am obviously terrible at explaining it. and it is not definite either, this is just stuff that i am reading in the newspapers, and on various forums.

in my case i do believe that UCSB based my admission on the rankings from UCB and UCLA. especially because of the timing of the UCSB decision coinciding with my answer to UCLA. if you did not apply to UCLA or UCB, then it would not be an issue at all. and some are speculating that not applying to UCLA and UCB will increase your chances at other UC schools.

of course talk is cheap, we won’t know “until the fat lady sings” (ancient showbiz saying). i just hope you get into ALL the UC schools you applied to dude.

@fionuhh no way! i applied to UH Manoa too, how random lol. Yeah I figured I would go with a UC, but Hawaii is a hell of a backup as far as location.

But the woman I spoke to said the time is completely random, and I’ve seen people on here (who check multiple times daily) get them at 6 am, midday, and after midnight oh well, at least it’s only 2 more weeks, 3 at the latest. And they DO post on saturdays she said, since all decisions made on fridays would have to post the next day. Good Luck! I’m sure you’ll get in!

okay so i just got my decision today, Not Admitted. well I had a tag for my major, chemical engineering, and as far i am concern i met all the criteria for the tag even my school’s transfer counsuler said i met all the requirements. I never got a message rejecting my tag (i only got a message at the uc tag webpage saying it was approved and should continue working on requirements) and now i am been rejected from admission. what do you guys think about this?

atomicboy: Damn that really sucks… what time did they post your admission notice? Well this just saddens me cuz I did not even tag with ucsb… even though its my first choice i guess I missed the deadline or something… but that just sucks for you cuz like you said you tagged with their program and you have the requirements. Well I hope you at least get accepted to another UC that is if you applied to a different one.
Honestly I don’t want those rumors discussed in this previous page get to me… I guess that if they are true than im screwd cuz i applied to UCLA just to see what would happen even though I don’t think I have a chance! Good Luck on your other decisions!

@ northbeach: So what exactly did UCLA ask you? I’m still a little confused about what you said earlier. I also applied to both UCLA and Cal. I got into SB, SC and R so far and no rejections yet. So what is that supposed to mean for me?

@juanchobm18, the decision was there this morning when i checked, about the rumors well i just hope that they are just rumors because i did apply to ucb, so i don’t want to be evaluated by the other uc’s using ucb’s standards.

^sorry to hear about that hmm. Well I know that for UC’s if they reject you they’ll usually tell you why if you call them. I would definitely do that because it might be something small and/or correctable. And maybe I’m mistaken but I remember reading that if you tag and you don’t get in to your major they’re supposed to admit you into the university and you can either petition in or switch it.

Atomic boy. Did you check the UCSB Tag on your UC application?

@northbeach: Wait a second. I just looked at your link on the previous page. Am I seeing that its for frosh only?

i did all the tag and application process correctly, and beachgirl i don’t know about that because i was rejected from my first(tag) major and second major.

@iDizzle
it means you rock. and they better let you into UCLA and CAL or we will come and kick their butts.

if they are using the “Holistic Reviews” it could mean that you are still in the running for CAL and UCLA. but this all needs to be taken with a grain of salt, because it is also possible that some schools randomly do their own independent reviews even if you submitted applications to CAL and UCLA. who knows.

in my case, i feel quite confident that all my UC admissions are being based on CAL and UCLA assessments.
UCLA just had a simple question about highschool, because i attended a school on a small island in greece.
but it did bring up an interesting point, and that is, i do not think that UCLA read my essays. at least not at that jucture because the answer to their questions was boldly stated in my essay. CAL probably did read my essay, they did not have the same question.

just wild speculation on my part which helps me pass the time while i am waiting, waiting, waiting.

iDizzle: (re frosh admissions)
there are tons and tons of articles about this holistic process, that is just one that happens to be about frosh admissions. LA times has articles about it. there are many sources. there is not one way that applications are reviewed certainly, there will be many decisions made in many different ways. however, in my case, i feel quite confident that i am going throughout the holistic review process via cal and ucla and the other schools are basing their decision on that. but i have no idea how your application will be reviewed. except, i know they better let you in man, cause you deserve it!

^Your Friend.

@ northbeach: lol, Thanks. Ok I see. I hope Cal and UCLA ARE using the holistic process for my application. I don’t have the best gpa but my personal statement would make for some good reading. lol. A small island in greece? Now that’s cool =].

@ northbeach: And again, I’ve said this before. But my bro applied last year, got accepted to LA, CAL and Irvine. But rejected from SB and SD. So who knows what will happen.

@jdom24: Thanks, that table is really helpful.
