@ Chelz: Do you have that thing at the top of the financial aid award page that says “Congratulations You are eligible for, Blue+Gold” ? Any idea how we get that one?

How are you guys seeing your financial aid? I go to the financial aid page, but it says I can’t see it until I SIR… What’s the trick?

So this is what it says under the Blue+Gold thing.
“The majority of students who meet the income eligibility standard will already have sufficient grant and scholarship support to cover full UC systemwide tuition based on our standard financial aid packaging guidelines. Thus, we do not plan to identify students needing additional grant funds to meet the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan guidelines until mid-to-late fall quarter.”

Does this mean that you qualify for the Blue+Gold but since you already received enough to cover tuition they are not going to give you the Blue+Gold?

^^^ Go to your home page. Than click “Steps to Enrollment” -> “Financial Aid” -> “Unofficial Award Letter”.

@shortstuf, as soon as i log in, on the left hand side there is a different colored link that says “unofficial financial aid letter” or something similar.

@iDizzle blue and gold basically covers your tuition with whatever resources you’re getting from the school. So cal grant, UC grant, and pell grant will cover your tuition. We’re basically being covered by B&G right now. It’s just a guarantee that they will take care of our tuition fees with whatever grants we’re getting now. so we’re fine.

And here’s a pic of my award. I clearly stated I was ON-CAMPUS on my FAFSA application and they put me as Off Campus…Is anyone on the same boat as me?

@Chelz: Oh really? Lame. lol. So its an either or kinda thing?

Yeah so if you have enough money from cal grant and pell grant to over your tuition, they just yeah you’re getting B&G. But if someone isn’t eligible for cal grant for some reason, the school will pay the person enough money so they can afford tuition.

Btw, on your FAFSA application did you put off campus for UCSB’s housing question? I put on campus but if you look at my screenshot, they have me as off campus. It’s pretty odd…

I got $10,000 for Cal Grant–nice

$19,000 for unofficial loan

lawl does it say you’re off campus or on campus? what did you choose for your fafsa?

It says off-campus–which is weird. I selected on-campus

mine is like that too… I’m pretty p1ssed right now. They obviously made a big error and now we’re getting less aid as a result.

@ Chelz: Yeah mine says off-campus but I DO plan to live off-campus. Do you guys think its just because its an “Unofficial award letter”? As in its just kinda like a general estimate type thing? So everyones will say “off-campus”?

^^ Actually, I think my theory might be correct. I did not sign up for work study but It does say work study-$2000 on mine.

Do you even apply for work study? I thought it applies to anyone that could use it by financial need.

@iDizzle I have no idea tbh. I mean UCR is giving me like way more money because they put me down as a on campus student…I wonder if it’s just us. But I’ll try calling them tomorrow to see what the heck is going on.

^^ I think so? I think I recall seeing a work study check box on the UC application? Damn, I cant believe that was almost 6 months ago. lol!

I also put on campus for fafsa, but on the award letter my housing option says off campus.

mine is listed as off-campus… although said I would be living on-campus.

Maybe after you submit the intent to register stuff and fill out the application for housing this will change.

But do they give more financial aid if you live on campus?

@Chelz: Hmmm. Maybe this explains something?;

"This letter displays UNOFFICIAL financial aid eligibility.

Official Financial Aid eligibility will be determined after May 1 for students who have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to UC Santa Barbara. We may request documentation to verify the information supplied on your FAFSA. Awards are contingent upon continued funding from federal, state, and institutional sources, and upon information provided on the FAFSA. Awards are subject to change and may be reduced if funding is insufficient or discontinued, or if the verification information provided is different from your most recent FAFSA. Tax transcripts that reflect business and investment losses may reduce eligibility for UCSB aid. Additionally, your eligibility may be reduced if you receive other UCSB awards or outside agency scholarship awards."

Basically it does not become official until we SIR and choose classes.

Yeah UCR is giving me more money too. Not by much though, like a little more than a thousand more. I never payed attention on whether it says on or off campus housing for UCR though.
