yes you get more money since on campus is more expensive

@iDizzle Ohh I see. But the fact that they put me down as off campus makes it seem like they made an error even if it’s just an unofficial award…I mean even UCR keeps it more accurate…jeez. But yeah I hope that’s the case. And thanks. And I’m surprised UCR gives more money than a mid tier UC like SB. Is it the UC grant there giving less of?

@ Chelz: Yeah hopefully. I guess nothing is finalized until we SIR. But maybe you should call just to double check.

@dark91 @angie can you call them tomorrow to see what happened? I’m deaf so I can’t speak to them myself.

Anybody knows why i cant check my financial status?
Mine only shows…"Your initial 2012-2013 FAFSA was received by the federal processor on 2/8/2012. "

your award hasn’t been made yet

^Oooh thats a relief. Thx!

@bearterritory3
Thank you~~Hahahah I remember seeing your posts in USC thread. LOL. ahhhh…so desperately want USC!! We will rock USC this May !

I got 20,000 in grants, 2000 in work study, and 7000 in loans, what did everyone else get?

for all those who were wondering about blue and gold. blue and gold is for people who don’t get calgrant—thus it is designed to cover california kids who fall out of the calgrant specs. UCSB listed me as receiving CALGRANT and if that is not approved then i will be covered by blue and gold. the reason i might not get calgrant is because my parents both graduated from college. even though my gpa is perfect, that might disqualify me for calgrant. so blue and gold is not lame at all! haha. it is awesome. and is really a suppliment for calgrant. it can also be added to calgrant if students still don’t have enough money to cover their tuition–but calgrant usually covers tuition (not always). i hope you dudes realize how incredibly lucky we are having these grants to attend a UC. many other states in the country (most) don’t have anything like this, and we also have the best public schools in the world. we are soooooooo lucky.

@anexia
calgrant is for kids who graduated from california high schools, or earn their GED’s in california. and you must also have residency. if you meet those requirements you need to submit your GPA to calgrant, did you do that? if you filed a fafsa and submitted your GPA to calgrant, then you will be able to check your calgrant status here:
<a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home;

if you qualify to apply for calgrant, you become elligible for blue and gold. hope that makes sense.

@sharon and bear
does USC allow kids to apply with over 60 transferable units? i applied to their film program last year because i had under 60 units (was denied) and had to wait another year to apply to the UC system until i had over 60 units. maybe i am confused, i do not think that harvard and stanford allow students to apply (as transfers) with over 60 units either. maybe USC is different? good luck everyone!

Just called SB regarding the off campus on my financial aid award. They say they just automatically stamp ‘off campus’ for transfers because they usually are on off campus. So later on, if we pick on campus, they will adjust our awards accordingly.

@northbeach, ACTUALLY…YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG…it does not necessarily mean that if you wont qualify for cal grant if you qualify for blue and gold. if a person falls under the blue and gold program, then the school will give them awards…in either grants, scholarships, or etc…So these awards could consist of a Cal Grant, I am a current UC student and I qualify for BLUE and GOLD, and my Cal Grant awarded was about $14k, this is to cover all my tuition and fees…so NO you can get CAL GRANT even if you qualify for BLUE and GOLD…basically being under blue and gold you are guaranteed to have all of your tuition and fees covered…which is about the 14,000K amount…the way each student is offered the 14,000 is awarded differently…

one student may get 14k Cal Grant

or one student may get 7K cal grant and maybe 7k in a UC scholarship

also there are about 3 different Cal grants, based on you FAFSA, some can qualify for all 3, or only 2 or only 1…but either way if you fall under the BLue and Gold, you will get minimum of all you tuition and fees covered which can include a cal grant…

This is in addition to any other types of aid the school wil offer you…loans…etc

I have a lot of experience with how this works…i know more than the student that work in the Financial aid department.

@northbeach, yeah i went to a ca hs for 3 years and got my chspe. i submitted the app but i had my tx college put my gpa on there. now, i checked my status a few days ago and it says they received my app and my fafsa, but they are only verifying my gpa from my old CCC, and it says my application is still processing. they still list my old california address as well, yet they updated my cell phone number and email which was on my new app that i sent from texas. there is just no mention whatsoever of me even being in texas at all, which is where i currently am transferring from.
i talked to ucsb and they said if i qualify as a resident for that 3-year ca hs attendance/graduation/ged/chspe loophole (which i do), then for all intents and purposes i will be considered a california resident. i guess i should just call the calgrant people.

@samarai
why are you so excited? haha. anyway, the specs for blue and gold read that you must apply for calgrant in order to qualify for blue and gold. i have no idea what you are talking about beyond that. i am aware of the various calgrants and some students get portions of both. so whatever your point is, i have no concept of what it might be, or why you are so wound up. good luck.

@anexia
that’s fantastic. sounds like you will qualify for both blue and gold and calgrant. both of my UCSB and UCSC unofficial award letters state that i qualify for around 22k in grants and 8k in loans to cover the cost of attendance. hope you can get UCSB to adjust your admission as a resident asap, so you can get some peace of mind. cheers.

@northbeach
You specifally posted that “blue and gold is for people who don’t get calgrant” this is completely false…

blue and gold is just a program…if you qualify for Blue and Gold, you can get awarded a cal grant …because I do.

When you are qualified under BLUE and GOLD, the different awards will consist of Grants and Scholarships…these grants can include cal grant…

you ask why am I so excited…I just get irritated when people, think they know what they are talking about, but have no clue what they are saying, hence giving students false information, making them more confused…

Hey guys, I’m new here but I’ve been reading this thread for a while. This is who I’am:

Communications major. My gpa isnt great: 3.06. 3.1 by the end of this semester.

I have plenty of volunteer work…was V.P. for a club

Currently interning for Stand Up To Cancer at sony studios (I’m sure sb doesnt take these things into account though).

I noticed there hasn’t been many communications majors on this thread and I was hoping there would be so I can compare. Anyways, I just need to know if I even have a shot. My hopes were hanging in there, but now…idk. You all seem sensible and knowledgeable…so here I am lol

Thanks =)
