♠ 2012 UCSB Transfer Decisions Thread ♠

@lulu1127 I think you might have misunderstood the meaning of “specializing in accounting”. From what I understand, Business major at UCI, you get to concentrate either into Financing or Accounting (maybe management as well). Specializing in accounting means you’re basically majoring in Accounting because most of the courses you take for upper divisions are accounting related. It’s even better than students are doing it as a minor because you get the priority to get the classes ahead others. You shouldn’t worry too much!

To address whether or not you need pre reqs (I.e lower division math like stats) to be accepted, you do not. My good friend was accepted April 6th as a Prebio major with a 3.4 GPA and her Stats is in progress. She is TAGed and IGETC certified (after Spring 2012).
I am still (like several of you) awaiting my decision.
Decision Pending sucks…

if given the option, would you guys choose ucsb or ucsc and why?

anyone still waiting? I got ucsd so far for chemical engineering

@anexia…i would choose UCSB over UCSC, because the overall atmosphere is just amazing…yes there is a great college life within the city at both places…and yes there are great attractions fairly close to both schools, but UCSB unlike UCSC is near directly on the coast, where as UCSC is in the forest.

Also UCSB is so much nicer…

and I love

where would ucsb rank if we were to rank the best campuses? I’m sure ucla and ucb are top 2 two. maybe 3rd for ucsb?

Either 3rd or 4th. Davis is really up there too. Then maybe Irvine then Merced and Riverside.

UCB > UCLA > UCSD > UCD > UCSB > UCI > UCM > UCR

in hoensty though it depends on major. because each school is good in different things. Davis for example is #1 for animal science major.

^^ Wow, since when did UCM over take R?

^ ironically, it is MUCH harder to get accepted to UCSB (according to stats) than it is to get into davis these days. but it was also harder to get into UCLA than UCB last year. fascinating. i did notice that UCSB was ranked number 10 in the top ten best public schools in the USA. five UC schools were listed in the top ten on the US News and World report rankings. now that is cool.

So I just realized that I got accepted to UCSB while missing 3 Pre Reqs… that were offered…

Not that I’m complaining, but this should give hope for those still waiting :)

congrats! oh and for those still waiting, ucsb does NOT look at your pre-reqs. Unless you are a Bio,engineering or bus/econ major. told by the admissions office

Beachgirl, did they tell you what they do look at? Because I got in with a pretty low gpa, but with just about all my prereqs done. Mathematics major.

^ congrats you guys! it has crossed my mind that they did not even look at my application and just took the ratings on my application that were generated by UCLA and UCB to determine whether or not to admit me. but i will probably never know! haha. just glad i am in. getting accepted removed the stress of waiting to hear from other schools.

shortstuf, they did not really tell me what they look for, they just said they do not look at pre-req’s or personal statements. So process of elimination just leaves gpa, grade trends golden four, and I think some people got rejected on here for taking like 20 units in one semester. And they cant see your race or anything like that so i guess its pretty much a numbers game. And they said they just admit to the university not really to a major (unless impacted like i said above), so i dont think there are quotas or limits based on major.

And I’m not quite sure if they do the UCB/UCLA score thing. I asked and they just said each university has their own way of reviewing applications. But I don’t think so because there weren’t any articles about it like there were about UCSC. And at UCSC it seemed like everyone who had also applied to UCB/UCLA was admitted on the first day, because if UCB already had my score to send to UCSC by March 17, how come UCSB still has me pending April 17? just a thought, I could be wrong though.

^ there is an easy explanation as to why they would still have you pending; if kids get rated by UCLA and UCB as 1 or 2 it might be an automatic admit to UCSB. but if they are rated 3 then UCSB might review the apps. i am pretty confident that my admission to UCSB was based on UCLA and UCB, but that is only my application. there were a few key factors that clued me into this. guess we all have our own ideas about what did or did not contribute to our admissions. haha. entertaining anyway, while we wait.

@ ThePavin: Congrats, lol, I snaked by with 1/4 prereqs too =].

@beachgirl: I know they SAY that they are not allowed to use ethnicity to determine decisions but do they usually? What ethnic group are usually at a disadvantage if they look at that?

Wow, this is the first I’m hearing about UCLA/Cal app ratings. Can anyone give a quick rundown on how they do that, and if we can determine what our scores are?

@iDizzle: They do not use ethnicity to determine decisions, but if they DID… I would say that minorities that are majorities on some campuses (For ex: Asians at UCR) would be at a disadvantage? I don’t know.

To everyone still waiting: I did not finish any prereqs for UCSB (but one is in progress - and it’s math), but I was still admitted so there is hope!

@postsecret
you can check “Ms. Suns” blog and use google to read about the “UC holistic” admission application reviews. there would be no way to find out what our ratings are unless we hacked into their computers and found out. but the ratings are listed as being 1-5. 1 being the best. let’s hope we all rate Numero Uno!

it is so funny that people who are often the majority are called the “minority”.

@ Postsecret: Oh I see. LOL. I’m asian, that’s probably why I got accepted to UCSB. hahah
