still pending… what.the.heck.

wtheckkk…am I the only one still pending…its taking for ever!!!

@samurai92-im still pending as well, but got accepted to davis which kind of makes up for the wait lol

im pending too

Does pending mean we r hopeless? like they just hold the rejections till the end

Decision: Accepted

&

**Decision Date & Time: 4/20/2012 @ 5:30 PM **

Objective:[ul]
[]UC GPA: 3.8ish – can’t remember the exact number
[] Major Pre-reqs Completed: Still need Linear Algebra, Diffy Q and 2 Physics courses
[] Intended Major: Chemical Engineering (1st choice) but I got in for Pre-Earth Science/Geophysics (2nd choice)
[] TAG?: Nope
[] IGETC?: Almost, dropped my Spanish class this semester, so not quite.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): MESA, Photography Club, some political campaign involvement, and lots of ECs from school (cheer, ASB, etc)
[] Job/Work Experience: 3 years as a full-time academic advisor at a college in LA, pharmacy technician work in high school, serving experience, freelance photography, and freelance tutoring work
[] Volunteer/Community service: none since high school
[] Personal Statement: 9.5/10
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: CCC
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: $0
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): Female in science? Nothing too exciting.
[] Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): Definitely
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Personal statement, decent GPA, strong academic upswing
[] Weaknesses: Not IGETC completed, no TAG, failed many classes at the beginning of my college work, changed my major several times, haven’t finished physics or math series
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Their ChemE program is one of the best in the country, so I knew it was a long shot. I am proud I was accepted, but since it’s not my major of choice, I’m pretty sure I’ll go to UCLA instead. The major I’m most interested in is Atmospheric Science.
[/ul]General Comments: I really wish everyone the best of luck!

@stevololpb18 yeah same here got into davis but still waiting for sb and irvine. I hope this wait will be a positive news for all of us :)

CONGRATZ guys!!! Since you got into Davis…where would you rather go…DAVIS or UCSB…???

Sucks I got denied from DAVIS

@fredfrep-i hope so too, i hope we hear good news soon
@samurai92-i personally would choose davis over sb, but both are really great schools :)

Still pending as well. But seeing as though people are still getting accepted (some found out Friday- 4/20) I’m still holding out hope that it doesn’t mean the rest of us are hopeless and rejected.

For UCSB, having yet to hear back from them is neither good or bad…because all the applications are randomly given out to a reviewer…and whenever the reviewer gets to your application, thats when you find out the decision…and I called and they said they are aiming for the May 1st but decisions can roll out after that date…

They should of began reading our apps sooner. When I spoke to them they explained that they set a criteria and everyone who meets that criteria is accepted (no set #). When they decide however is just the luck of the draw. They actually asked for my Perm ID # when I called and told me my App is waiting in someone’s queue rating to be read.

decision pending… Still!! Ugh!

Hi everyone, I have a question about alternative majors. Yesterday I was notified through my portals that I was not admitted under a Biological Sciences major, my first choice, at UC Santa Barbara or UC Davis. During the application process I chose Nutritional Sciences as an alternate major for Davis since Biological Sciences was so impacted there; Nutrition is not impacted at all. Although I was not admitted under my first choice, does anyone know if there is still a chance that I could be accepted under my alternate at Davis? Has anyone else had experience with this? I was accepted into UC San Diego under Human Biology and am still waiting to hear from UC Merced. I currently have a 3.9 GPA at Modesto Junior College. UC Davis was my first choice, so if anyone could answer this question I would really appreciate it!

Definitely something to call admissions about on Monday. not 100% sure, but I think if you got in as your alternate major, your portal would just say ‘congratulations! You’ve been admitted to [insert alternate major]’ but with a 3.9 I’m very surprised It didn’t say that. Definitely call.

Ya I am definitely going to call on Monday because I am very confused about the decision. I knew that it was going to be very difficult to get into the Biology major since it is so impacted, but I thought for sure that I would be accepted under my alternate major with a 3.9 GPA. Does anyone know if Davis and Santa Barbara even look at alternate majors, because with the way this is going I’m guessing that they didn’t even consider mine?

yes, they do look at your alternative major…however, yes the schools are impacted, and they really do look at each individual individually, so everyone is different. And as for majors…you technically dont pick your major until the beginning of the winter quarter, so I dont even think majors really count…

all they would say is to submit an appeal…but saying stuff like “my friend got in and had less stats than me” is not grounds for an appeal…(not that you said anything like that) but the appeal needs to have a good grounds for a turnover

Well since I’m a junior level transfer I have already completed all my lower division course work so I actually would be going right into my major’s upper division classes. So I would definitely be choosing a major and taking classes solely for that major. The major you choose really does count since each college can only admit a certain number of students into that major and admittance is also based on your strength of preparation for the applied major. I’m not looking to appeal, I just wanted to know if anyone else had experience with being a very strong applicant but not even looked at for your alternate choice, in my case a major that was not very competitive. I have read that some UCs don’t even look at your alternate choice, such as UCLA and Berkeley and that Davis occasionally does.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/files/ETS10_TransferQA_final.pdf</a></p>

some UC’s do look at your alternative major, i’m not sure about Davis, but i know SB looks at your alternate major ONLY if you’re first choice is an impacted major. And btw, they would not look at your pre-reqs for your non-impacted major choice. UCSB admits to the school, not by major. There are no quotas, limits, or pre-req screenings AT ALL for non-impacted majors. UCSB admits you as a “pre-” major, because once you enroll in fall, then they look at your pre-reqs and you officially declare a major. Source: admissions

Well I’m not sure about SB, so I was talking about Davis since I have spoken to a councilor there who informed me that they definitely look at your chosen major and your completed pre-reqs for it when it comes to admissions. I was also referring to the impacted majors, such as my first choice Biology, when it comes to limits and pre-req screenings.
