2012 Wharton Transfer Thread

I wanted to start this thread for those students who are interested in transferring to Wharton. I think that we can use this thread to discuss anything that relates to the admissions process for us.

Like most of you, I am a former application who had been rejected by Wharton last admissions season (just with a new name). I think it would be a great opportunity for us to "bond" as we try once more to gain admissions to the best University in the world.

I think I'm gonna try to apply there, next year though. But I think they prefer transfer students going into their second year, right? That's too bad for me. I would LOVE to go there. Good Luck. What year are you? Have you gotten any advice from the admissions staff there?

I am currently a freshmen. I have not received any advice from the admissions staff. I may plan to call them soon to discuss future plans. I am just starting to fill out the admissions application. I figured that now would be the best time to start sorting things out.

im applying as a sophomore, im currently at a state university, i.e. the state university of new jersey

prospects look to be VERY small. i called today
average GPA of successful applicant is 3.9

what tips do you guys have to be successful at this process?

i mean transferring into wharton as a sophomore, trying at least

What did the admission office say? Let us know. I wish they would accept more students entering their third year.

If the average is a 3.9, how many 3.9's apply?

Hey guys,
I'm applyin too. I'm from U of I and I actually know a couple of other guys here that are tryin to transfer as well.

However, I did not apply last year as a senior.

Hello,
I am looking to transfer into Wharton, but I have several doubts. I am currently a first semester Freshman.
What is the best time to transfer? Do I need to transfer Fall 2008, or can I transfer Spring 2009?
What is the acceptance rate for other departments in the University of Pennsylvania?

Why are you leaving U of I arpster? I don't mean to get off topic, just my friend got in there two days ago (I have grown to hate it), and everyone from my school goes there.

Muse, I would really be interested in those statistics. Maybe I could major in the college of arts and sciences. Does anyone know about the % of transfer students who are entering into their third year?

Sampson, I wanna leave U of I because:

-too much partying
-it seems like nobody cares about actual learning
-I came to college to learn and sharpen my intellectual abilities and I've realized that I truly value education a lot more than I did in high school...I need a place that will foster that more so than a place like U of i
-Upenn is freaking amazin...I can create not only a pre-proffesional curriculum at Wharton, if I get in, but add other classes to round out my education
-There are a LOT more reasons but basically in a nutshell U of I doesn't click.

also applyin to NU, cornell, and maybe dartmouth.

Yup.

btw, where's everybody else that's applyin to Wharton...there's GOTTA be more

what are ppl's stats on here....if you don't mind revealing.

It seems I want to transfer to Wharton for the same reasons as you Arpster. My college is an excellent liberal arts college, but there seem to be too many parties, and not enough respect for learning. However, I am not even sure that UPenn is any better in terms of partying. Does anybody have any confirmable sources on the party culture and intellectual atmosphere at UPenn?
I do not want to attend a college where students treat academics as a chore and encourage professors to end lectures early. I want to go to a college, where when the professor introduces an extra problem on the board, the students lean forward on their seats with excitement! Does anybody know of such a college?

That's one thing I'm afraid of. All the kids from my high school go to U of I. I didn't even apply there. It's the partying, fact that kids don't care, which scares me about the big ten. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE partying, but I want the best learning environment possible and some professionalism around me.

What if I'm coming from an economics major background? Will I have the right courses?

I'll start with my stats:

I go to University of Illinois and my backup is transferring into their business school next year (finance/economics with technology and management minor)

My GPA is 4.0 or maybe a 3.95 for 1st semester Freshman year (I wanted to take more course but couldn't..def not rigorous at all)

Computer Science 105 - 3 credit
Speech Communications 101: Public Speaking - 3 credit (pre req for business)
Microeconomics (hard course) - 3 credit
Intro to Public Health - 3 credit
Professional Seminar - 1 credit
Dance 105 - 1 credit

Next Semester (thankfully a bit more rigorous)

Intro to Buddhism
Econ 202: economics statistics
Health Stats
Accounting 201
Macroeconomics
Maybe Philosophy w/ writing, if I get into the class

EC's
-started a Web design company..leader of a team of about 10 people so far..expanding at a rapid pace
- Entering a few business competitions, including one at UIUC (working with a social entrepreneurship startup company), and a few prestigious competitions
- trying to get involved with research in health economics
-Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity (one of 20 selected from over 200 applicants)
- some volunteering like tutoring etc.
-working with NU student holdings (A student run company) on Web design and development

Stats
Hs GPA: 3.85 rank about 15/600
SATs: 1460 (720 V, 740 M)...should I retake?...I can prolly get over 1500
SAT IIs: 740 Bio, plan to take Math II (aiming for 800)
APs: AP Spanish 4, AP Calc BC 5, AP bio 5, AP Govt 4, AP Us 4, AP Macro 4, AP English: Language 5, AP Lit 4

high school ec's: pretty good; sports; some awards; president of a few clubs; active in voluteering etc.

Recs: expect them to be above average (nothing too spectacular
(very hard at a such a HUGE institution and as a freshman)

....Believe it or not Penn is a pretty big party school...obviously nowhere near state schools...but def more than most if not all top 15 schools

I'd say Dartmouth is up there...Princeton too.

I'd say Cornell and Dartmouth are the biggest party Ivys. I know some people who went to each. I also someone who lives in Princeton. I hear CoRnElL iS WiLd!

so can we get back on track, please....lol

not tryin to be a prick..but I don't think we should compare ivy league partying...its prolly already small to begin with.

So does anybody here know of anyone else that is applyin i.e. friends from school etc. I kinda want to know the competition I might be up against

im applying to transfer to wharton as a soph for the class of '11

im currently a freshman a gtown mcdonough school of business

i was waitlisted when i originally applied...

my gpa is a 3.93 for the first semester and my scores are:

SAT I: Math 800 CR 740 W 730

SAT IIs: Math I 770 Math II 790 US History 790

From what I understand, my credentials are about average for the wharton transfer pool and the chances are slim to none (and even less than applying as a freshman), but im going in with that attitude and hoping for the best

does Wharton require your high school transcript?

On the website it states that all types of people get in- from community colleges to Ivy league schools. Is that really true?

What is the average applicant like?
